It’s home… As Copper Queens return home

The Triumphant Zambia Women’s national team have arrived back home with the trophy after edging South Africa in the final. 

The Copper Queens touched down at Kenneth Kaunda international Airport at 12:15 hours. 

Bruce Mwape’s lasses recorded a 100 percent winning rate at the tournament to secure gold. 

Zambia started the tournament with a routine 2-0 win over Namibia before thrashing Lesotho 7-0 in the second match in group B.

The Copper Queens then saw off Eswatini with a 2-0 scoreline before edging Guest nation Tanzania 2-1 in the semifinals. 

Zambia needed an extra time goal from skipper Barbra Banda to win the tournament. 

The win is the Queen’s first in the history of the Competition having won silver in 2019 and bronze 2021 and 2017.
