It’s good to be home – Mwenya Chibwe

South Africa-based goalkeeper Cyril Chibwe who arrived on Sunday afternoon to join the Chipolopolo camp says he is happy to be back home.

This is Chibwe’s first call-up under current head coach Milutin Sredojevic. Chibwe who was eligible to play for South Africa completed his passport formalities and was officially eligible to play for the Zambia national team in October 2019.

Cyril was between the sticks when Zambia suffered a 2-1 defeat at home at the hands of the Warriors of Zimbabwe.

“Thank you for having me it’s been a long time I have not been in Zambia it feels good to be home the breath of Fresh air here in mother Zambia cause I have not been here for some time and am humbled to be in Camp,” he said.

“It’s every player’s dream to represent the country and then choosing Zambia it was not a big hustle because my parents are from Zambia so it was just a matter of me been honest and been honest to myself and the country and the nation that’s why I chose Zambia a country of my roots.”

“I think from the coaches side there are going to do their best it’s up to us the players to apply what ever the coach has been telling us to do during the training session so it’s up to the players to apply whatever the coach has told us to do,” he added.

The Polokwane City goalminder is confident Zambia can still make it to Cameroon despite being bottom of group H.

“I think we still have a chance it’s just a matter of just going there and doing the job and we will see the rest later, it’s very important to cement a place because you must understand this is my first camp with coach Micho as the head coach. I need to just prove, work hard and show him that am willing to work but it’s up to him and the technical staff if I play I play if I don’t we support anyone who’s going to play like we have been doing,” he said.

“Am open-minded am willing to learn, I learn every day whoever is new will work hard to adapt and know their weakness and strength as training sessions go.”

“Just keep on supporting Chipolopolo boys we are working hard we want to make mother Zambia proud and we just gonna keep on working hard as much as we can,” he added.

The Chipolopolo Boys have two must-win Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria and Zimbabwe on 25th and 29th March respectively.
