Zambia Women’s National Team assistant Coach Florence Mwila says the team played according to the plan and produced the needed result.
The Copper Queens beat Angola 3-1 to record their first win of the ongoing COSAFA Women’s Championship.
Mwila was however quick to mention the missed chances as she felt the team could have scored even more goals on the day.
The technical bench made five changes to the starting line up and Mwila says they were necessary as the players who came in did the job.
“This was part of the game plan. The three points are what we needed from this game and the girls worked according to our plan. But we had a lot of chances that we wasted and could have scored more,” she said.
“The changes we made are players who came on in the last game and were more influential in the second half and they are the ones who scored today because they showed the zeal to push and finish chances.”
“No, but that’s what has happened and we are just hoping for the best in the last game,” Mwila said when asked about the group still being open and of that’s what they had planned for prior to the start of the tournament.
The defending Champions started their campaign with a goalless draw and Mwila says the win is a relief.
“It’s a relief and I think we headed in the right direction,” she said.
“We knew they would come with force having won their first game. We knew it wouldn’ be easy and it would be physical,” she added.
Next up for the Copper Queens is Comoros on Tuesday and Zambia want an outright win says Mwila so as to avoid calculations regarding them progressing to the next round.
“We just have to win so that we qualify without negotiations. We don’t want to look at who is the best second placed team, we just have to win. We know it won’t be easy as well but we just have to plan to win so that we come out of the group without calculations,” she said.
Ba Coach tell Jere she is carrying Zambia’s COSAFA hopes on her shoulders and let her come out of her shell.
We need an incisive player at this tournament in the mould of Babra Banda, Rchael Kundananji, Hellen Chanda and the evergreen Grace Chanda to get any where.
