Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Division One South is one of the toughest leagues in the country which boasts of having some experienced teams in the league which has been in the division for many years.
The experienced teams in the Division include the likes of Kalomo Jetters, Kascol Rangers, and Maamba Energy stars formerly known as Zamcoal Diggers.
It has not taken Riverplate long to give stiff competition in the league with just two seasons in the league, they managed to finish in the top 4 last season at their first attempt and it seems this season they are National league bound although they will face a lot of competition from title contenders Blue Arrows FC as well as a far much improved Kalomo Jetters who are yet to lose a match this season.
Yes, the season is just in week 8 but so far so good for the chikankata based outfit as they are topping the table with 20 points from 8 games, having not sustained a loss so far with only 2 draws managing to score 18 goals, and only conceding 3 in the process.
The Chris “Gaza” Tembo coached team is one of the most feared teams in the league and they have a new tag because of their prowess, ‘the disciplinary committee of the Division One South, the name coming from their merciless way of demolishing opponents, especially when playing at home in Nyati Farms.
Up next for the Mwaba Simpasa captained side is a home fixture against struggling Maramba stars before they make a long trip to Livingstone to face stubborn students Play it Foward FC who are currently occupying the 6th position.
It’s still a long way with about 26 matches to go but Riverplate looks very dangerous to any team so far and may just go all the way to the National Division One Playoffs.
