Injury knocks Sunzu out of Morocco trip

Chipolopolo defensive kingpin Stophila Sunzu has been knocked out of the Morocco trip for three friendly matches due to an injury. The rest of the players who were summoned turned up and were part of the training session.

Zambia national team assistant coach Beston Chambeshi confirmed the development during a morning training session held at Edwin Imboela Stadium on Thursday.

“Stophila has a knock and he phoned me so we said we should excuse him. Its better he gets healed quickly because we have a lot of assignments ahead of us,” Chambeshi said.

The Morocco trip is an invitation from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation which will host the Copper Bullets from June 6 – 17 as part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries back in 2017.

Morocco and Cameroon are using the friendly games against the 2012 AFCON Champions as preparation for the 2019 Egypt Africa Cup of Nations. Chambeshi, on the other hand, is using the games as part of the preparation for the U23 AFCON qualifier against Congo Brazzaville scheduled for September 5th.

Zambia will play reigning African champions Cameroon on June 9 in Madrid with another match set for June 12 against the Gambia in Casablanca. The team will conclude its assignment with a match against the Herve Renard tutored Morocco on June 16.

  1. I wonder when he got injured? He needs tot rest that’s all. Ho do you just believe a player from a mare phone call. Let him come in camp and then the team Doctors have a look at him. Anyway these are just friendly games.

Where is K.Mweene on the list?

  2. Use Gampani ku 2, Emmanuel Banda ku 3, it is best for players to have game time, but most importantly best for tactics.
Zambia don’t have established wing backs. And all players wants Kalaba’s position. Bwafya.

  3. @ mingalato we have Emmanuel mbola an established wing back whom local coaches chose to ignore for reasons best known to themselves.
