Copper Queens coach Bruce Mwape doesn’t understand why fans say he is not good enough tactically.
While there are genuine concerns about his tactics Mwape is the most successful coach in women football on the continent.
He is the only coach who has guided the national team to each every major tournament since he took over the reigns of the Copper Queens six years ago.
Under his tutelage, the Copper Queens have qualified to three Women’s African Cup of Nations (2018, 2022 & 2024), two Olympics (2020, 2024) and the Women’s World Cup (2023).
That’s six major tournament plus a Cosafa Women’s Cup title.
Despite these achievements, debate continue to rage about his tactical acumen.
Ahead of the World Cup last year in Australia/New Zealand, the Football Association of Zambia roped in an American Lisa Cole as Technical Director as well as former Chelsea boss, now in charge of Zambia Men’s national team Avram Grant to offer technical support.
Apart from an emphatic victory over Germany in the lead to the tournament, there’s nothing to show.
“People say we don’t have good tactics, me up to now I don’t understand the tactics they talk about,” Mwape wondered
“if it means we look for somebody to assist, we have qualified Zambian coaches, I would rather ask for a Zambian coach to help us in terms of tactics,” he added.
Looking at how much FAZ spent for Cole’s supposedly expertise compared to the Copper Queens’ performance in New Zealand, it might not be wrong to go with Mwape’s suggestion.
Mwape has named his final team for this month’s Paris 2024 Olympics.
Zambia is in the same group with USA, Germany and Australia
Whether Zambia, Israelit, Tubuka, Lozi or muzungu, what we need is a good coach and good players.
FIFA GRANTS CAN PAY AS MUCH AS USD$20 000 A MONTH FOR A COACH.
LOCAL COACH CAN ACCEPT USD$5000 OR LESS THE DIFFERENCE THEY TAKE AND VERY ACCOUNTABLE TO FIFA AS SALARY FOR THE COACH.
THIS IS HOW AFRICAN FEDERATIONS ARE LOOTING MONEY.
If he ever goes beyound the group stages at a global stage then we can sing praises. Right now he is just riding on the back of players like Barbra & Kundananji (Individual brilliance). Otherwise the Ghanian coach showed him flames.
Thee is wrong with the coach, let him go ahead with his job, what is wrong with you Zambians . Mwayamba jealous.
Bruce mwape Is the man, we need to transfer him to the men’s team.
He lead us well now lets find a foreign coach to do better.
We have all seen how far he can take us. Nothing furher than qualification and being participants.
