I ‘ll always be a proud member of the KK11! Kalu’s eulogy for Super Ken

African football icon Kalusha Bwalya has joined the of the Continent in mourning Zambia’s first Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.

The 1988 African footballer of the year took to social media to express his sadness over the passing of Dr. Kaunda.

The former Mufulira Wanderers and Cercle Brugge attacker says he will always be proud to have been a member of the KK11.

“From the very first time I knew of you as First Republican President and the many occasions we met especially on the football field from 1983, one thing in your leadership remained constant, your love for Mother Zambia and your love for football.

It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to you President Kenneth Kaunda. I am and will always be a proud member of the “KK11″ a National Team that played in your honor and was aptly named after you. May your dear soul rest in eternal peace, knowing the immense impact you made on all Zambians, Africans, and the World at large .#KK #KK11 #kennethkaunda #Leadership #ZambiaMourns.”

During the 1980s, The Chipolopolo Boys were known as the KK 11, after founding president Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.

Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia’s first president and one of the last of the generation of African leaders who fought colonialism, died on Thursday, aged 97.

Kaunda was admitted to a military hospital in the capital, Lusaka, on Monday suffering from pneumonia.

  1. Its good the name changed from KKXI to Chiwelewele, as only very few current players would fit in any of the KKXI teams assembled over the years. May the Lord comfort the family.
