I am rebuilding Felix Katongo – Janza

Chipolopolo coach Honour Janza says Felix Katongo still has a lot to offer and he will be working to rebuild him.

Speaking to ZamFoot in the wake of Zambia’s victory against, Janza said he is working with the player to help him regain his form.

“As you know, he was not part of the initial team, but I called him so that I could assess him. He went through a lot in Libya where he even had to be evacuated and now Egypt, but we are rebuilding him, he still has a lot to offer,” Janza said.

The 31 year old midfielder, was called to train with the national team but was not part of the final team which played Malawi.

  1. Should rebuilding be done at the national team at the expense of better form players in that position? Let those who drop their guard know that others are waiting for that chance in the wings.
Let no player be called to the team when their form dips and up their game at their respective’s club. We didn’t need Nathan when we knew he was far from fit. Singuluma was injured but was still called for a friendly against a very weak opposition.
Let us grow out of this mentality of RESERVING national team places for your friends. We shall not develop this and will continue counting 2012 win 50 years onwards.

  2. @ bolapazed . Well said . There is no harm in rebuilding Felix if you do it somewhere else not at national level . Toying around with chipolopolo its just as good as peeping at mother bathing . Jaza is a joker of the year . Last time he brought grandfather chamanga and he said is a team builder and now he brought Felix and he said he is rebuilding him . This is nonsense .

  3. Zambia and Mediocrity……SMH. Gentlemen, we can rebuild this man……what is this the six million dollar man??!!! Janza does not know what he wants to do. one day he is looping in the young gunz because they are the future and the next he is rebuilding a 31 year old player who is past his prime…..??!! We are comedians pa zed, and guys will come out an defend this mentality!! smdh!! I am lmfao, reading this silliness, from the so called coach with no plan or coaching philosophy……!!!

  4. We might as well start rebuilding Kalusha Bwalya, Harry Milanzi and the likes if thats the case. Simple laws of nature, we have to lose the good things to allow room for the GREAT things. Change is inevitable and we are fearing change. When are the likes of Ronald Kampamba, Alex Ngonga, lewis Macha, Moses Phiri, Saith Sakala, Patrick Ngoma, Noble Rumsey, Lubambo Musonda going to be given a chance to show their talent at a high level and grow into the players we hope they will become? How can we be rebuiling players at a national team as if theres only 11 footballers in Zambia? If he is not already on form, he shouldnt even be called up to the national team to start with. Because for somebody not to be on form, they must be lacking in sufficient game time. And where this is the case 9/10 times they are either not training hard enough or in Felix Katongos case age is catching up with him and he will never return to his old self and thats a FACT regardless of who you are – provided he is a human being. Even Messi will slow down one day. How do you honestly expect to compete with the likes of Nigeria Ghana, Ivory Coast who are churning out young decent professional players every year in Europe and are being given chances at their respective national teams?

At the rate we are going if we are going to continue recycling players I can safely prophesy that we will see a huge slump in Zambian football by 2017-2018.

    SAVE OUR MOTHER ZAMBIA
    With love

  5. There are many players who fall out of form or favor, many players who should still be kept in the loop!!!

Look at Nyambe Mulenga who was nowhere insight a year ago, no one was considering him, but he came back to save Zambia in the qualifiers and be the standout player…

Many valuable experienced players, players who have unique qualities we need in the national team… Players who must be active and must be given some help if needed to do so.

    • No one is arguing with that but the national team is not the place to bring a player back up to speed. Nyambe was not brought back to fitness at the national team, his club did that.

    • Nyambe Mulenga rebuilt his game the moment he realised he was losing it. Zesco showed him the way out and he had to reclaim his place by putting in worthy performances week in week out in the league. If a player loses focus, the national team is not the place to regain that focus. Let others who are on form be given a chance and you will be surprised by what you discover….

  6. janza u said u r going to build a team like that of the 1993 fallen heroes. are u going to do that by using players like Felix katongo?

  7. Just watching Janza and his new philosophy. Rebuilding at national team when kola does not need rebuilding. when the real wing player Chris is having game time. Janza’s pride is too much that’s why he too took under 17s to develop them at afcon when Fwayo, kola, or even Mbesuma where fit.

  8. Honour Janza reads this blog, just like all Zambians do.

We have no problem with you Bwana Janza trying to rebuild the career of Felix, or any player for that matter. So here is what you should from now onwards, select those players you want to rebuilt, and advise their club coaches to work on them in whatever aspect you see them lacking. I have not read your TORs as a coach, but I am convinced that Player rebuilding (rehabilitation)is not one of them as it is not the responsibility of a national team coach.

Your responsibility is to pick and use only those players who are suitable to do the kind of duty required at a particular time in a particular game to achieve the required results..

The National Football Team (is Chipolopolo) and not the National Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre (NVRC). There is one in Ndola next to Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. Use that facility to rehabilitate those players who need rehabilitating.

  9. janza needs to sit down and reflect on some of the decisions he is making. renard also tried to rebuild Felix by giving him some game time but there was no fruit out of his effort.

      • Janza has made many many mistakes in his short time but this is not one of them. Even if it fails it was still worth a try. We dont have any players like felix with his experience and he can hold the ball.

  10. Janza is a CNP. Rebuilding and reassessing players are two different things. Maybe he meant assessing Felix. If you can extend that gesture to players like Felix, Chamanga, and babies at U-17, I see no reason why you can’t try Roja Kola who is tried and tested and is doing a good job in Israel. I have really failed to understand Janza’s philosophy and way of doing things.

  11. This is why Zambian coaches fail. In case y’all missing the point here. Lemme bring it out to you and I am ready to receive all the backlash that comes with speaking out the truth as I see it. Why isn’t Janza calling young Fwayo Tembo? Why isn’t Janza calling Kola? These are players playing at a higher competitive level in Europe that Janza should be building the team around, not Old Felix Katongo who is catching crocodiles in the nile river in Egypt. We thank the services of the Katongo’s, but time has come for them to perv way for the young players. It sound to me that Mr. Potato head Janza has been bribed by either Chris Katongo or Felix himself to be in the team. This is ridiculous and has failure written all over this clueless coach’s head. We are watching, hopefully I am wrong.

  12. ~Nigeria flying eagles preparing at full force for th Fifa U-20 world cup in New Zealand.

~Nigeria U20 team defeated Hoffeinheim 5-2 in a friendly game played on Tuesday afternoon.
A hat trick from red hot Taiwo Awoniyi inspired Manu Garba’s side a comprehensive win over the German topflight U23 team as they continue preparations for the 2015 Fifa U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

~Manu Garba boys yet to lose a match since their lost against Ivory coast in Africa U-17 champ in 2013. Went on to win the U-17 world cup, now AYC 2015 and are on course to win fifa U-20 cup.

~Brazil must be shitting in their pant now bcos these boys will embarass them come June 1.

      • There u go again. Your shallow mindedness is fully exhibited here. He who lives in a glass house should not throw stones. Four days ago, u were on ghana soccernet . Now Bodosqi is stating some splendid records by naija & becos you are envious, u don’t want to hear the good news from the Manu Garba boys. These boys make AFRICA proud. Take it or leave it.

  13. Ine I still support Janza, but I also disagree with the idea of rebuilding careers in the National Team. A player has to be extremely exceptional for something like this to happen, and unfortunately Felix is not an exceptional talent.

Maybe the local league is lacking the players that Janza needs, but there are players like Lubambo Musonda, Fwayo Tembo, Chisamba Lungu who have already surplanted Felix Katongo as a regular, so there is no need. Why not try out guys like Stanley Nshimbi who according to reports is tearing teams apart.

  14. janza is not a sharp guy.I watched the game against Malawi and am surprised not to see any meaningful analysis of the said game by zf.my question is did janza call all those youngsters and never used them at the expense of tired/injured players like ,kabaso,Nathan,Felix, singuluma useless Jackson, useless Winston?first half was ok second half was chidunu, typical of janzas chimbwi no plan.as fo me he has failed us and nothing will ever change.

  15. @paradox wetin I do you na oooo? You’ve been looking for my trouble since yesterday but you know what God pass you.

  16. Jaza has turned chipolopolo into old people’s home. Kalengo 30, mwanza 28, Danny 28, Joseph zimba 27 , kapumbu 27, chama 29, zulu 27, kalaba 29 , singuluma 29, Felix 31 , kondwani 29 . Jack banda 26 Munthali ????. Kalaba should not play with these players in jaza’s development team . These players won’t be around 2018

  19. Welcome to Chipolopolo Home for the aged ,we offer the following services, rebuilding, team builders, take care one of our own, trials to beach warmers too numerous to mention so vist us and you will not be disappointed .So pathetic and useless clown ,anyway days are numbered.

  20. Jacob Sakala has not been given a contract to coach Aces next season even after he drove them out of the relegation battle and almost secured a top eight spot for them. The club have opted for the well travelled Muhsin Ertugral who truth be told has not really managed to churn out the results expected of a coach of his calibre.

Jacob Sakala has been relegated to club scout.

This is not good news for Mbesuma because it is well known this coach favours using youngsters.

    • I am telling you Steve Ertugral will fail at Aces. He will fail to achieve and will end up leaving or being sacked, as has been the case with other clubs. He is a frustrated human being who wants to achieve something but fails at many clubs in South Africa. Jacob Sakala has been very faithful and loyal to Aces and has been through thick and thin with this club. I know Sakala will come back to coach this club after Ertugral leaves in a season or two’s time.

  21. This case of lazy and clueless Janza failing to nurture young stars and only to rely on established players for small tournaments like Cosafa ,is a shame and derseves condemination from all zambian soccer family. Now we fully understand his ideologies ,simply out of context .

  22. When we needed experience at the AFCON,he took toddlers. Now that we need toddlers for COSAFA,he wants to take experience!COSAFA is a developmental tournament requiring raw players with potential for the future! This is not for MBOLA etc!
