Hichani keen on PSL return

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Hichani Himoonde has expressed his desire to pursue his career back in the PSL following the expiry of his loan spell at Zambian champions ZESCO United.

Himoonde was signed by Sundowns in January on a two-and-a-half-year contract but was then immediately loaned out – due to The Brazilians having exhausted their foreign quota – to his former club ZESCO on a deal that was supposed to run until June. It was later extended up to the end of the Zambian season, which has since been completed. When Himoonde’s loan was extended it was down to the fact that Sundowns still didn’t have foreign space for him to enable him to be registered and that remains the case up to now meaning that though he wants to return to South Africa he still cannot play for The Brazilians until the start of next season.Himoonde was used sparingly at ZESCO due to injury concerns. Justin Mumba, the ZESCO secretary-general, talked about the latest developments regarding Himoonde, who still has 18 months remaining on his Sundowns contract.

“Hichani has told us that at this moment in time he wants to go back to South Africa and get to play there and we have no control over that even though we were to be interested in him. He made it clear to us that at this stage he feels he wants to play in South Africa,” says Mumba.

Though Himoonde was signed in January by Sundowns he has never played for the club and word is that if he is willing to take the club’s settlement of four months’ salary in January then he will be handed his clearance and allowed to move as a free agent.

Himoonde is still in Zambia along with another Sundowns defender Emmanuel Mathias, who ZESCO are keen to retain for next season.

  1. WHY NOT TRY AND GO TO EUROPE. ZAMBIANS NEED TO SET HIGHER EXPATATION FOR YOURSELF LIKE THE PLAYERS OF WEST AFRICA. OTHERWISE HMMMMMMMM

  2. Himonde is too old to go to Europe, I just hope that Sundowns will give him a chance since they ‘ll lose their captain Schut who has opted not to renew his contract which is expiring at the end of the season.
