Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi has shared his excitement after returning from injury sooner than expected, as he made his comeback on Monday in the match against Zambia at the Africa Cup of Nations.
“I didn’t expect to recover this early,” Hakimi said.
“It feels great to be back from injury and I’m really excited to be part of AFCON again,” added the PSG defender
The 2025 African Footballer of the Year praised his teammates for their performances in his absence, stressing that the team has shown strong character and quality throughout the tournament.

“Morocco has been playing very well without me, and that shows the strength of this group. I’m now here to help make the team even stronger.”
Hakimi was clear about Morocco’s ambition, leaving no room for doubt about their target at the tournament.
“We have one objective and one objective only — to win AFCON,” he said, underlining the determination within the squad as they push for continental glory.
