Davies Phiri has been appointed goalkeeper coach at Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
The 49-year-old joins the new Simba technical bench led by South African head coach Steve Barker, with whom Phiri previously worked at AmaZulu FC in South Africa.
Phiri was unattached prior to this appointment, having recently ended a long spell as Zambia national team goalkeeper coach (2009–2025).
He has since been replaced by Kennedy Mweene on the Chipolopolo technical bench.
As a player, the former Kabwe Warriors shot-stopper also turned out for Golden Arrows in South Africa and represented Zambia at three AFCON tournaments — 1996, 1998 and 2000.
In his coaching career, Phiri was part of Hervé Renard’s technical team at the 2010, 2012 and 2013 AFCONs, including Zambia’s historic 2012 triumph.
He also served under Avram Grant at the 2023 AFCON.
A new chapter begins for one of Zambia’s most respected goalkeeping figures.
