Gyan’s last gasp effort hands Ghana win over Algeria as Senegal hold Bafana Bafana

Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan struck in injury time to give the Black Stars a tournament saving 1 – 0 over Algeria on Friday evening.

Algeria who were looking comfortable with a draw which would have pushed them to four points were undone by virtually the last strike of the game when they failed to deal with a long ball which Gyan controlled after out pacing his marker to strike past the Algerian goalie.

Cosafa representatives South Africa only managed a 1 – 1 draw against Senegal to complicate their chances of qualifying to the quarter finals.

Senegal now lead group C on 4 points while Ghana and Algeria are on 3 points. South Africa trail the pack with just one point.

    • Thanks Kwabena Piso for the support.
Asamoah Gyan is just a great striker. He scores from nowhere. This is how great strikers are. One chance bam! Its a goal. Not some strikers who needs 10 chances to score 1 goal, like Mayuka. Great goal Gyan.

  1. Impressive performances from GHANA. One thing south Africa admires about Ghana is their mental toughness. Their resolve to hope and believe, in the face of towering adversities is unparalleled!
Good job, Ghana, Best of luck until we meet! A draw would be best for Ghana Vrs South Africa!

To my BAFANA BAFANA warriors, we’ve have learnt bitterly from our mistakes against Algeria and we’re are coming against the Teranga Lions like a wounded Hunter!

And finally, The Copper Bullets are firing but I think it’s a matter of hard luck!

We are wishing you the best of luck against Cape Verde.
Cape Verde must and will fall!!!
    Iyeeeeeeee Chipolopolo
    Iyeeeeeeee Bafana Bafana!!!
    Oseeeyyyy Ghana!!!

    • my brother this was no fluke, Gyan has consistently been scoring goals like that.

Out pacing the defender and scoring from such an angle takes hard work.

    • True exactly like when Zambia won de AFCON in 2012…and r hoping to win it again so they are even wearing 2012. jersey….keep talking master of fluke wins

  2. Modern football you need sme size, small teams will always have problems maintaining leads coz they have to give 110 percent to score, normally after a battle of attrition and they naturally tire leaving them more vulnerable to size!

  3. Ghana ll win this afcon! In 1982, Ghana beat Algeria by a similar margin and went on to conquered Africa!!!

The same has happened!!!! History in the reckoning!!!

Again anytime,Ghana loses it first afcon match, it goes all the way to the finals!!!

    Wait and see!

  4. S.A overrate themselves too much. They were speaking as though they were already in the final after winning practice matches! Loud mouths indeed! This is not PSL! Next time they will demand to host for automatic qualification!

  5. Janza is really being silly by saying zambia have a slim chance. He is irritating. Mashaba is optimistic yet he is negative. It is easy to beat cape Verde. Mozambique beat cape Verde why can’t zambia do the same. Janza must find the tactics to beat cape Verde we don’t want excuses.

    • YEP!!
THE CHIPOS HAVE BEATING THEM B4 IN ZAMBIA..WHY CANT THEY
( JANZA ) BE PERSIMISTIC AND BOLD TO TAKE A RISK TO BEAT CAPE VERDE?

  6. Southern africa countris talk too muc,, instead of concentratin on appropriat tactics tu deploy on oponents, they talk abot previous matchs b4 games thinkin they can easli win matches judging from de oponent’s previous matches. SA overate themselves, thats their problm. learn tu study games well before bragin and talkin. this is afcon, not friendli matches or qualifiers, go and look at the history and get serious wit it, for now, yyu are joking here!!!

  7. Ghana is and will always strive to put Africa up, they play for all Africa and for that sought of determintaion in itself is enough to say they are Africa’s BEST

  8. Congrats Ghana, i said it that Ghana still has a big chance to qualify despite losing the first game. That’s what the black stars are well known for “striving when all odds are stack against them.” Ghanians we are asking for calculators with us its back to mathematics, the Zambian way. Congrats to all the Ghanians and KWAME NKRUMAH for the sweet victory, all the best in the next game against S.A.

  9. I think in the next match we need Mukuka Mulenga as a replacement for Mayuka.

We need a tweak of our formation so that we have Given and Evans upfront. We need to congest the midfield

    Cape Verde is very beatable

  10. Am impressed. Until now i thought all zambians disliked the black stars just like mumbi and paradox. I”m wrong there are more straight forward and level headed people in zambia. You have a young team, chipolopolo. Build it for the near future. Good luck.
