Guest Article: Well-meaning open letter to FAZ Chief, Kamanga

Mr. Kamanga, I have been extremely pained by last night’s group stage elimination from AFCON.

Zambia’s performance is as though there is a curse on the Team.

It’s as though something is holding back the players, stifling them from scoring! Until a Pastor friend of mine reasoned with me by way of troubleshooting!

To simply recollect that ever since 2012, it’s been trouble for the Chipolopolo.

The team didn’t qualify for three AFCONS. And we’ve been losing to poor opposition.

The TV commentator on the SuperSport channel last night kept rubbing it in, that Zambia has never won a game at AFCON since 2012. That is, at AFCON 2013, 2015 and now 2024 where we participated!

What’s the answer? Remove the Elephant from the room. Pay your dues as FAZ to the 2012 team that won the AFRICA CUP. Do the right thing. “He has shown you O, man. What is good and what God requires of you(it’s a requirement).

To do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly before God(to humble yourself before God, don’t be stubborn, don’t argue),” Micah 6v8. God observes the whole world, even the world of football. He requires justice everywhere and He will not blink nor slumber on equity.

Yes, Mr. Kamanga, you weren’t in office, but you’re in office now. Atone for the sins of the previous FAZ officials who didn’t pay the 2012 winners.

Those players have been crying. These things have an insoluble spiritual consequence. Just look at the pattern! Winless at all AFCON tournaments ever since!

You qualify for AFCON 2024 in Ivory Coast and it’s like clouds without rain. Winless again and elimination in the first round!

Curse the curse by paying the 2012 players. Without any excuses now, FAZ must pay the players of 2012 what was promised to them, the money that came from CAF.

The then government of Zambia did its part and paid the players. But the then FAZ regime did not pay the players what was due to them from its side or what was promised to them.

This information is in the public domain. In the Bible, Israel suffered an unexplained drought and when king David prayed, God told him his predecessor had shed innocent blood of the Gibeonites! David was the one in office now and so he took measures to atone for the sin of his predecessor and the drought stopped.

The 2012 AFCON winners have been crying and these things have spiritual ramifications. Without delay, the current FAZ must pay them if Chipolopolo is to sing its anthem at 2026 World Cup in North America! Do it now, Mr. Andrew Kamanga.

  1. Though I agree with paying the 2012 stars what they are owed, I’m not about this curse business. This FAZ needs to look back at two playbooks for Zambias success. 2012 AFCON and 2017 U-20 AFCON.

In both those tournaments there was a plan that built on the youth players and robust preparation. In 2012; Zambia was the first team to arrive for the tournament, they also had a training camp in India where the local players were assessed in 3 friendly matches. Then there was two friendlies when the team was together. Also the players were regulars at their clubs, Mweene – best goalie PSL, Chris Katongo – top scorer PSL despite playing half the season, Mayuka was was scoring his first in Champions league for YoungBoys, Isaac Chansa was the midfield engine of Orlando Pirates, Sunzu and Hichaane were unmatched in chemistry from playing together at TP Mazembe, so too was Kalaba. You had a team that was prepared and had form, but it also built in 2007 U-20 team.
The next journey needs to start at U-17. Let’s also continue identifying talent in the local league. Look at Nathan Sinhala. Zambia needs a reset and a serious FAZ exec that have vision beyond tomorrow. They need to be thinking 2026, 2030 today.

  2. When Zambia is doing better nobidy complains. When we dont do better even curses come into play.
Let’s realise that missing 3 AfCONs is hard on a national team. In this instance we had only about 3 players with AFCON experience. That is not easy on a team as stage fright also plays a very big part.
Take heart guys. We shall do better in the coming AfCON.

    • Good points boi. I think the experience will do wonders for the guys. Definitely was good to see the team grace the AFCON this year. Let’s get back to being regulars

  4. Andy your comment is akin to someone blaming our national teams failure to some spiritual curse from not paying 2012 winners! Why??? The previous Faz Exec are still alive all if them! The curse should be on them! Why sre you people pretending as if you are oblivious of the culprits and the facts surrounding this shameful issue! Why Why Why. The president then Kalu is somewhere in South Africa! Kamanga is surely not the curse! For heavens sake question Kalusha and the ministers of sport in that era; Kambwili and Mulenga! Lets not spiritualise issues here directed at innocent individuals! Round up Kalusha, Kambwili and Mulenga. Drag them to ZNBC to throw light on the unpaid allowances! Let’s do it quickly b4 the players die off. Somebody chewed the money and you slap the issue on Kamanga timid as he is! Looking the other way from Kalu is the main curse!! In fact it is corruption of the highest order. If Kalu claims he doesn’t know where the money is lock him up for being stupid on the other hand, if Kamanga says he cannot trail the documents, the bank that received the money from caf, also lock him for being a stupid accountant. What a docile people we are!!

  5. Balifola kale abo naimwe! Impiya shamu 2012 balipwisha kale bambuya ba Francis Kasonde naba Felix Katongo.
Lets just plan and focus on the next qualifications to the World Cup. We are still a strong footballing Nation and we can qualify to the World Cup. Kamanga Administration has nothing to do with the so called un paid allowances. All Kalus personals are still alive including the former Sports Minister of Sports Hon Chishimba Kambwili (wishing him a quick recovery )
Wishing our National Football Team all the best in all competitions and wishing all players good health.

  6. You were too optmistic about Zambia winning all its matches, remember the other teams where equally preparing and hence Zambia found it difficult to deal with the other teams after being absent for a long time. There is no curse whatsoever. If you think there is one, deal with it yourself. Stop being emotion. These results are not a surprise to some of us, matches at afcon are not a walk in the park.
