Green Eagles Football Club have confirmed that they will protest to CAF after they were informed that four of their players had tested positive for COVID-19 an hour before kick off in the CAF Confederation Cup first round second leg match against Cotonsport played in Garoua, Cameroon.
The Aggrey Chiyangi tutored side had a two goal deficit to make up for after losing 2 – 0 at home and they were dealt a further blow when, Justin Munyikwa, Samson Manyepa, Lineker Mwiikisa and Michael Mwenya were declared Covid-19 positive technically making them ineligible to play.
Eagles lodged in the protest before kickoff in a game they went on to lose by a goal to nil.
“Unfortunately the match is being played under protest after results were brought one hour before the match and four Green Eagles players have allegedly tested positive for Covid 19. The match has proceeded but a protest letter will be written to CAF,” a communication received by the ZamFoot Crew stated.
The loss in Cameroon sees Eagles bow out at the second hurdle having eliminated Musongati of Burundi via a 4 – 3 aggregate score line in the preliminary round.
