Lusaka FAZ Women’s League giants, Green Buffaloes Women’s football club will face Queens Academy in the final of the inaugural FAZ Women’s national Championships after they saw off Indeni Roses 3-1 on post-match penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Copper Queens midfielder Mary Mwakapila put Green Buffaloes in the lead 29 minutes into the match with a spectacular shot from outside the box beating Catherine Musonda in the Indeni Roses goal.
Veteran Noria Sosala leveled matters just minutes later with a beautiful strike of her own following good interchange of passes with Grace Kamanga.
Mary Mwakapila turned from hero to villain seven minutes to half time when she punched a defender following a foul on her and the referee Austeria Nkole wasted no time showing her a direct red card to send her for an early shower.
In the second half, both teams had chances to win the match but Catherine Musonda and Hazel Nali were up to the task as the match ended 1-1 and went straight to penalties.
The 2019 Lusaka FAZ Women’s league champions came out 3-1 victors on post-match penalties with Indeni Roses missing three spot-kicks through Grace Kamanga, Grace Zulu and Zamiwe Mukokomena.
Irene Lungu, Lushomo Mweemba and Rachel Nachula scored the three spot-kicks for Buffaloes while Copper Queens defender Jackline Nkole was the only one who managed to convert from the spot for Oil Ladies.
In the early kick-off, Queens Academy humiliated a youthful Solwezi Academy side beating them 10-0 with Zambia U-17 forward Niza Njobvu scoring a double hat-trick with Josephine Kasongo also netting three times.
The final will be a family affair as Buffaloes square off with a club owned by their President Colonel Priscilla Katoba. The winner will pocket K40 000 while the runner up will walk away with K20 000 with the two semifinalists getting K10 000 each.
