Frankie Musonda ruled out of four Nations tournament

Chipolopolo defender Frankie Chisenga Musonda has been ruled out of the four team tournament.

Musonda joins Lameck Banda and Lubambo Musonda who could not travel due to an injury and illness respectively.

Team Doctor Wesley Ngongo confirmed the development in an interview with FAZ Media.

Musonda sustained a muscle strain in his right calf and has since been ruled out of both games as he needs a minimum of a week’s rest.

“Lameck Banda had an injury at the club. and Lubambo Musonda had an illness and due to its severity we decided that he was not fit to travel,” Dr Ngongo said.

“One is Frankie Chisenga Musonda, who stretched his right calf, which worsened when walking, after an MRI scan confirmed he has a strain. He will need to rest about one week meaning he will be unable,” he added.

Meanwhile Stophila Sunzu has missed today’s training session following an illness and he is a doubt for tomorrow’s match.

“Stophila Sunzu today he is unwell and won’t be able to train. He is on treatment and we will make an assessment tomorrow. For him (Sunzu) there is still a possibility that he can still play tomorrow,” Dr Ngongo said.

The Chipolopolo will play Zimbabwe at 14:00 hours at the Bingu National Stadium on Saturday before the host nation face the Harambee Stars of Kenya at 17:00 hours.

Winners of the two matches will duel with each other on Tuesday in the final at 17:00 hours while the losers will face off at 14:00 hours for the third and fourth play-off.
