The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed seasoned football administrator Charles Chakatazya as its new general secretary with immediate effect.
FAZ also confirmed Iva Lengwe Mumba as deputy general secretary following his stint in an acting capacity.
Chakatazya replaces Machacha Shepande, who has left Football House by mutual consent after taking up an international assignment.
The appointments were approved during an executive committee meeting held on Sunday in Lusaka.
FAZ president Keith Mweemba congratulated both officials and expressed confidence in their ability to strengthen the administration of Zambian football.
“Mr Chakatazya is a well-known football administrator who has served the game diligently at both local and international level,” Mweemba said in a statement released by FAZ.
“He has previously served as chief executive officer for Nkana, Kabwe Warriors and NAPSA Stars. His vast experience from some of the country’s top Super League clubs will greatly benefit the association.”
Chakatazya is a member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) and holds a Master of Business Administration, a Bachelor of Accounting and Finance from Mulungushi University and a Diploma in Accounting from Evelyn Hone College.
He also possesses a FIFA Diploma in Club Management obtained in Zurich, a Certificate in Senior Leadership Development from the University of Cape Town and is currently pursuing the CAF Executive Football Management Programme.
Mweemba also paid tribute to outgoing general secretary Shepande for his contribution during his tenure at Football House.
“I wish to thank Mr Machacha Shepande for the service he rendered to the game and wish him well in his new endeavours,” he said.
“Even as he leaves, he remains an important member of the football family.”
