The Lusaka Provincial Division One League returned over the weekend with newcomers Makeni All-Stars shooting straight to the top of the log with a 5-2 win over ZAMMSA.
John Mwale was a hero for Makeni All-Stars as he scored 4 goals to guide his team to a 5-2 win on match day one, their first game in Division 1 after they replaced Vector FC.
Peter Bwalya was very unfortunate as he put the ball behind his net for The Stars’ fifth goal. Musiyani Silavwe and Felix Sinduwe were the scorers for medical stores side ZAMMSA.
Meanwhile in Chainda, The defending Champions, Riflemen picked up from where they ended last season with a 3-0 away win over Airport Warriors in an early kickoff of the doubleheader that was played at Chainda Ground.
Ashford Kalosa, Lawrence Phiri, and Abuid Sakala made sure the Army-sponsored side collected maximum points.
In the second match of the doubleheader, relegated Police College got the better of the hosts Chainda Bombers with a 1-0 win.
Sadly, in Chawama, the match was abandoned in the second half between Chawama United and National Assembly.
The visitors took the lead before which they were awarded a penalty but they failed to convert from 12 yards. In the 71st minute, Chawama United equalized something that did not sit well with the Parliamentarians.
They went on to protest calling for the referee to cancel the goal claiming a foul on an Assembly player in the build-up to the goal.
The officials stood their ground that forced the Assembly technical bench to instruct their players to leave the pitch, forcing referees to leave the match in the hands of the FAZ Disciplinary Committee.
