FAZ WOMEN’S LEAGUE: NKWAZI AND ASSEMBLY SHARE SPOILS IN A 4-GOAL THRILLER

Lusaka Province – Week 2

Full-Time Scores:
Nkwazi 2 – 2 National Assembly (Towela Nkhata, Cecilia Mwape | Azed Phiri(OG), Grace Mulaisho)

History has repeated itself for the second time this year as Nkwazi has been held to a 2-2 Draw by National Assembly in a 4-goal thriller in the Football Association of Zambia(FAZ) Women’s League Week 2 encounter played at Chibolya Community Grounds.

Both teams were going into this Week 2 encounter with heads high having recorded maximum points in their respective Week 1 fixture which made this tie even more interesting as bragging rights were at stake.

Assembly was the first to score in the first half through an own goal from Nkwazi Defender Azed Phiri with a deflected shot from Grace Mulaisho who later on scored the winning goal.

Phiri’s own goal was the only difference in terms of statistics in the first half and the Parliamentarians went to the break leading 1-nil.

Nkwazi came back as a more rejuvenated side in the second half and it was the Enterprising Midfielder Towela Nkhata who leveled matters from the penalty spot to make it 1-1, a few minutes later Cecilia Mwape scored the second goal for the Police sponsored side to make it 2-1 in favor of the home team as they took control of the driving seat in a highly contested local derby.

Just when everyone thought it was 3 points in the bag for Nkwazi, there was drama as Assembly hero Mulaisho who’s shot went past Persivia Napanji in goal just in the dying minutes of the game equalized for the Parliamentarians who made sure they walk away with a point in a Highly Policed Nkwazi camp in Chibolya.

This was the third time these two teams have met in 2019 with Nkwazi failing to pick up maximum points against Assembly last season, they drew 1-1 at home before they went on to lose 2-0 away in the Showgrounds and this result is not bad for both benches who should think was a fair result.

Next on the assignment for Nkwazi will be an away visit to Pataaki while Assembly will welcome Progress Sports Club at home.
