Green Buffaloes secure title with three games to spare as Arrows humiliate Mufulira Wanderers

Green Buffaloes Women’s football club on Thursday morning won the first edition of the FAZ Women’s Super League with three games to spare following a five-nil bashing of Nkana Queens.

Red-Hot Arrows on Wednesday thrashed Mufulira Wanderers 9-0 as Grace Chanda and Mary Wilombe shared all the goals for the Air Ladies in a two-woman show while Zambian Institute for Sustainable Development (ZISD) Women Football Club shocked YASA with a hard-fought 1-nil victory as National Assembly and Indeni Roses shared spoils in the 2020/21 FAZ Women’s Super League Match Week 24.

The ZamFoot Crew yet again takes an in-depth round-up of all the action from the midweek games.

Mufulira Wanderers 0-9 Red Arrows (Grace Chanda x5, Mary Wilombe)

Second-placed Red Arrows on Wednesday afternoon thrashed Mufulira Wanderers 9-0 in a game that was played at Shinde Stadium, Arrows Goalpoacher and league top goalscorer Grace Chanda scored 5 goals to take her total tally of goals to 32 while Mary Wilombe found the back of the net 4 times to inflict a painful defeat to the Wanderers side at their backyard.

YASA Queens 0-1 ZISD (Lungowe Namasiku)

In Kalingalinga, YASA Queens suffered their first home defeat of the season as they were shocked by visiting ZISD at Hospice Ground.

YASA were going into this match as firm favorites to win the game and that was seen from the myriad of missed chances but ZISD were so determined and it was Lungowe Namasiku who stole the party with a match-winning goal in the dying minutes of the game to make it 1-0 to the Matero based side.

This is a sweet revenge victory for ZISD who lost 3-0 in the reverse fixture at Independence Stadium.

YASA’s next match is away to Kitwe against Nkana Queens while ZISD will host ZESCO Ndola Girls on Sunday.

National Assembly 0-0 Indeni Roses

Draw specialists National Assembly were held to another draw by Indeni Roses at Showgrounds.

It was a game of equal share of opportunities as Indeni could have easily won the match, especially in the first half while Assembly failed to convert most of their chances in the second half but instead spoils were shared in this match as Assembly recorded their 13th draw of the season while it was the 8th draw for Indeni.

Assembly will visit Nkoloma Stadium this weekend to face Red Arrows while Indeni will host Nkwazi Queens in Ndola.

Meanwhile, today’s action saw Green Buffaloes being crowned early Champions of this Inaugural Women’s Super League after they humbled Nkana Queens 5-0 thanks to a hat-trick by Theresa Chewe and a goal each from Captain Joana Benaya and Natasha Nanyangwe.

This victory means Buffaloes are champions with 3 games to spare as they have accumulated 59 points, 8 better than second and third-placed Red Arrows and ZESCO Ndola Girls respectively who have 2 games left to play.

Elsewhere at Edwin Imboela Stadium, Nkwazi Queens picked up maximum 3 points with a hard fought 3-1 come from behind victory over BUSA Queens.

A Brace from Sombo Kakoma and a goal from Dorothy Daka was enough for Coach Patrick Tembo’s drilled lasses to revenge the reverse fixture loss at the hands of BUSA with a comfortable 3-1 scoreline while Regina Chanda scored the consolation goal for BUSA.

In Ndola, ZESCO Ndola Girls cruised to a 2-1 win over Lusaka Dynamos Ladies to maintain third place on the log table.
