FAZ TILTS CHARITY SHIELD FORMAT…Domestic Calendar to kick off in January

The local football mother body FAZ has transformed the format of the domestic curtain raiser tourney, the Samuel Zoom Ndlovu Charity Shield, from the traditional quadruple competition to a single tie.

Traditionally, the Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu Charity Shield was competed by the top four teams from the previous season for a place in the final. However this time around only two sides, the shield and Baclays Cup reigning champions will go for a tussle for the honours.

FAZ Vice-president Rix Mweemba revealed this during the press briefing with the press at Football house today.

And Mweemba said the domestic calendar will kick off on 26 in January with Shield preceding and on 27 January both the top and lower tiers starting.

“The league this time kicks off on the 26 of January 2019. And as per our custom the first game that will be played is Charity Shield which will be played that is on the 26 January. Normally this game is traditionally played by the top four from the last season. This is time around things have changed,” he said.

“What is going happen is that the Barclays Cup Champions will play the Champions of the Charity Shield. They will just be one game, The final.”

Meanwhile the FAZ Veep said the Super league will be divided into two streams and all the games shall be squeezed until June 2019.

He further revealed that the next season will begin in August and that there is a blueprint to reduce numbers of of the teams in the Super league from 20 to 18. The four promoted sides from the zones will then go for playoffs with the winners joining the top tiers and losers joining the National Division.
