FAZ GUIDES ON LOWER LEAGUE COMMENCEMENT DELAY

Following unending inquiries from members of the lower division leagues and football followers on the roadmap of the commencement of the 2020/2021 season, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to inform its membership that preparations to kick-off the season are underway.

The commencement of the lower leagues which are widely spread across the country has been hampered by the stringent COVID-19 protocols that have to be implemented when the league commences.

FAZ Deputy General Secretary Joseph Chimpampwe says the Association is still piecing together the requirements for the commencement of the provincial leagues under the COVID -19 era.
“As you are aware, the provincial leagues will be played under the COVID -19 for the first time and there are new requirements that we should meet for the league to commence,” says Chimpampwe.

“We are mindful of the anxiety and the tension that this delay has caused but as an Association, we want to ensure that we meet all the required perimeters for playing under COVID – 19 and avoid the embarrassment of having the league stopped when we have already started because we have failed to meet some conditions.”
Chimpampwe has appealed to the membership to remain calm as FAZ engaged the health authorities on the roadmap.

“We therefore wish to assure the clubs that we are doing everything possible to conclude this process and start the leagues as soon as possible in the new normal. The longer part of this process has been exhausted and we therefore request all clubs to be patient as we exhaust the remainder of this process.”
