Where did 2012 AfCON win funds go? FAZ GS takes a swipe at former administration

THERE are no financial records at Football House on how the Africa Cup of Nations 2012 winnings were spent, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) general secretary Adrian Kashala has said.
The football administrator has questioned the motive behind continued attacks on the current administration and has urged critics to appreciate the transparency and accountability now being shown.

In an interview, Kashala said the FA has no records of accounts that shows where or how the money that the Chipolopolo boys won in the 2012 AfCON was used and wondered why that issue has never been addressed.

He added that some selected individuals have been calling for the pictures of AfCON winners to be mounted back on the walls of Football House instead of focusing on how best the sport can be improved.

“That is childish for someone to question the removal of pictures on the walls of Football House. In fact, if you check even pictures of the Under 20 are not there. We are making some renovations and as we put everything in order, you can see that no pictures are currently on the walls,” he said.

“I think it is quite petty for someone to start talking about the removal of pictures.”

He said genuine football enthusiasts should centre their discussions around football development and support the various grassroots programmes aimed at raising Zambian’s football profile on the continent.

“The question should be; what has the country benefitted from the AfCON we won in 2012 how was the money used, because here we don’t have records in our books that shows how it was spent,” he said.

“Which improvements did it bring to the development of football? When you look at the current FAZ administration a lot has changed. Clubs are getting more money as compared to before, we now have women’s football league, we have gone into grassroots football – which will help us identify young talent. We have our own brand in Kopa.”

The FAZ boss adds that the current administration if focused on the future and would not be detracted by persons, regardless of their status in society, who opted to continually attack the Andrew Kamanga-led administration.

Kashala notes that patriotism is what is currently needed, instead of issuing hate speech aimed at destabilising the game of football.
“As much as the team has failed to qualify to the Africa Cup of Nations, people should support the team ahead of World Cup qualifiers, as it does not belong to me, Kamanga or the current FAZ administration but is the national team,” he said.

“When people are calling for the former president of FAZ, yes he did his part. 14 years at FAZ – he has done his part. By the way he was good as a player but as an administrator tell us what structures were left?”

  1. Very true. The current FAZ has brought sanity. With current programmes being implemented, we are bound to see improvements soon. Kalu and team did their part. FAZ councillors are not stupid to stick to Andrew Kamanga and company. Major problem is most of thise throwing mad at the current FAZ niba kandile!

  2. General Secretary asking what benefit winning 2012 afcon cup brought to the nation. It brought happiness on many zambian faces and history has been written that Zambia won 2012 afcon. Not those grassroot football the secretary is bragging off. Whose benefits if you can’t bring the cup home. Bravo great Kali administration.

  3. Useless they failed to qualify three times and the kalu never failed. Kalu had good grassroots structers. He is the one who raised the under 20 that afcon. Kamanga zero zero. If they qualify to the world cup the sun will never rise .

  4. The FAZ administration of 2012 definitely has a lot of questions to answer for regarding the funds received after the 2012 AFCON win .Kalusha Bwalya was definitely a brilliant footballer having been instrumental in raising the status of Zambian soccer but certainly there have been doubts over the years about his financial propriety and integrity.

  5. I agree with you Kalu have Zambia glory and everlasting memories.
It’s not about financial sanity we want trophies and qualifications

  6. I meant to say Kalu gave glory and trophy to Zambia what has this ‘new ‘ administration brought to Zambia? Zero.
Where was Chishala in 2012? Why didn’t he question the winning money then?

  7. What is important is improving in FIFA ranking and winning trophies condemning the previous executive wont bring trophies .Football is not only about good admnistration but it goes with qualifying to continental competitions & winning trophies as the executive in office concentrate on issues of improving football not fighting back because Kashala & the team you have everything on your disposal to improve soccer in this nation.

  8. failures they owez luk fo scap goat.jst improve on yo game and tk the team to the nations cup by the way wat are u giong to point at?bcoz evn they u20 you are toking ablt its kalu’s admn who startd as aitel rising stars.kamanga and team they are just businessmen they are at that office to improve themselves why arethey not resigning afta a series of failures?and wat legacy are u going to leave?maybe not qualifying for 5 consective times to the nation cupwil history in zambia.from the word go made a lot mistake that are now haunting you for you did not want to associate with any one percievived be kalulusha’s players but in football we dont do that as long as one is active can play that simplly means you not a good football admn.so yuo fought the prevoious admn right left and center

  9. THE MOST DAMNING INDICTMENT OF KAMANGA’S ADMINISTRATION WAS FAILURE TO SANCTION AN AUDIT OF KALU ADMIN FINANCIAL RECORDS, IMMEDIATETLY AFTER ASSUMING OFFICE. KALU, FOLLOWING FAILURE TO RETAIN THE PRESIDENCY, MAINTAINED CONSPICUOUS SILENCE; MORE OF A PLOY TO DEFLECT BEING PROBED. KAMANGA’S NAIVETY ALSO HELPED KALU GET AWAY WITH IT! In a nutshell Kamanga’s admin was rendered impotent by attacks on it led by the minister of sport. One cannot achieve their objectives in such a toxic environment.
