Fashion Sakala returns from injury as KV Oostende record shock home loss

Chipolopolo striker, Fashion Sakala put in a good 79 minutes shift as KV Oostende suffered a shocking 2-nil home loss to bottom of the table side, Waasland-Beveran.

The former Spartak Moscow man was making his first appearance since suffering an ankle injury that ruled him out of Zambia’s recent AFCON Qualifiers. Sakala and Senegalese international, Maktar Gueye led Oostende’s attack.

As early as the fourth minute, KV Oostende had a good chance to take the lead. Sakala put Andrew Hjulsager through on goal. But Hjulsager’s shot was well saved by the goalie.

The Coastal boys, as KV Oostende are known continued to put pressure.

Sakala had his best chance of the game in the 15th minute. He headed an excellent cross from Capon just over from inside the box.

After that, the nightmare afternoon for Europa League chasing KV Oostende began.

Goals from Daniel Sinani (0-1) and Michael Frey (0-2) in the 22nd minute and 41st minute respectively saw Waasland-Beveran take a surprise lead.

KV Oostende had a goal controversially ruled out by VAR in the 43rd minute for the visitors to carry a commanding lead to the break.

After the restart, KV Oostende played with more purpose as they searched for a goal.

However, a mixture of poor finishing and indiscipline saw the Coastal boys drop all 3 points.

Thiam had a shot just go over. Later, Gueye saw his shot being cleared just before the goal line. After that, Bataille’s shot went just wide. The ball just wouldn’t go in!

Oostende suffered major blow when they lost 2 players to indiscipline. First, Jäkel was sent off for a second yellow card offence in the 76th minute. Thirteen minutes later, Gueye was shown a red card for violent conduct.

Fashion Sakala was rested in the 79th minute following a good shift.

Waasland-Beveran, who are still bottom of the league, held on for a comfortable 2-0 win. KV Oostende remain fourth on 49 points. They are a point behind third placed Genk, who will be in action on Monday afternoon.
