EXCLUSIVE: LUCHANGA, FASHION & PATSON TO START…as Chambeshi names his XI

Zambia Under-20 coach Beston Chambeshi has gone to the basics with the traditional 4-4-2 formation.

The Zambian trainer will start with two midfielders instead of the continental three man engine room.

Zanaaco’s Boyd ‘The Tanker’ Musonda will shield the back four but the boy from Chaisa will occasionally be encouraged to get forward. He is also deadly from set pieces.

Alongside ‘The Tanker’, Chambeshi has gone for the intelligence of Enock ‘Computer’ Mwepu. Both ‘The Tanker’ and Mwepu has a knack for goals and that goal threat from midfield could be vital for the young guns.

While the attacking triumvirate Conlyde Luchanga, Patson Daka and Fashion Sakala were going to pick themselves it was going to be interesting on whether the technical bench was going to go for a winger or an extra midfielder.

Guess what? Nkana legend Musole Sakulanda’s Chrispine gets the nod ahead of Portuguese based midfielder Emmanuel Banda Jnr.

The back four will be marshaled around the partnership of skipper Solomon Sakala and the highly rated Moses Nyongo, the boy from Wusakile.

Shemmy Mayembe and Prosper Chiluya will be at right and left back respectively.

Mangani Banda will start in goal.

Formation: 4-4-2

Zambia XI Guinea: Mangani Banda, Shemmy Mayembe, Prosper Chiluya, Moses Nyondo, Solomon Sakala (c), Boyd Musonda, Crispin Sakulanda, Encok Mwepu, Conlyde Luchenga , Patson Daka, Fashion Sakala

  1. Good luck to to the boys. Any links? I will be surprised if there is any on the Zambian side, but hopefully the Arabic TVs came with Egypt team.

  2. Good team but technical blunder there.. They should have started with two strikers upfront and play with four natural midfielders. Its not going to easy for them to score coz there will lack of creativity in midfield.. Out of three two strikers will be playing out of position.. The coach should have conjested the midfield.. Emmanuel banda, boyd musonda, enock mwepu and chrispin sakulanda.. In midfield. strikers daka and fashion sakala.. Daka to play as a second striker..

  3. When the U20 r doing well, i dont expect any feeds from Egwugwu and Undefeated Guru; after all they were unheard of when the boys were on a tour of duty in Spain. In the unlikeky event the boys struggle, this blog will b flooded with smart alec comments on hw Kamanga lacks vision! i suspect Egwugwu, Guru and Kazala r one and the same.

  4. Boys are trying to string a few passes. Guinea have been successful at stopping them doing that. Looks like the boys are pushing for a strong finish. Promissing team game so far, but individuals like Daka have shown leadership. Remains 1-0 with 85 miuntes on the clock.

  5. That was a goal at the death. Kalunga ruled offside. And kalunga should have won a free kick 79 minutes right on the edge of the box as he bit his man for pace – and a sending off for the last man who bundled him off the ball – it could have been. Final whistle though, Zambia 1 – 0 Guinea. Guinea have a mountain to climb but we wait to see the other teams.

  6. That is expected of soccer. Scouts are confused!! Too much talent. Hard to pick many of match.
    – Luchanga
    – Kalunga
    – Mwepu
    – Parson
    Amazing players.
Mangani Banda is ready to take over from Mweene.

    • Man of the Match was Emmanuel Banda, he came in as a substitute for Luchanga to contain the midfield. I wondered why he was not in the starting lineup as he played well in a friendly match with South Africa. Even in that match he was creative and anchorman in midfield

  7. Thanks guz for tha update.. Next asignment the coach should work with his midfield. The boys should create more scoring opportunites .. A win in our next game will send the whole nation into wild celebrations.. I wish you gud luck boys..

  8. Congrats to the young boys!! you have done us pride with a win from the first game. Thanks for the updates, what are scores for other match from group B?

  9. Congratration to the young lads the game was tough I was impress with our goalkeeper mangani banda the defence was ok our skipper solomon sakala did very well to mantain the cool but our full backs at times were exposed our midfilder was bit shanky at times patson daka has a bright future conylade luchanga lacks the match fitness fashion sakala had a quiet game all in all congratration to the team let’s focuss on the next game

  10. Mangani banda is a good goalkeeper this boy need to be natured he can be a good replacement for kennedy mweene, as for enock mwepu that guy is our next isaac chansa.patson daka has continue to prove his haters wrong.

  11. congrats lads i really see the next Isaac Chansa in Mwepu, zambia has struggled of late because of lacking a player of Chansa’s calibre in midfield and Ema Banda is a good creative midfielder he should have started the game, Patson has a bright future we would have spoiled this lad but this time, we should be patient with him and give him enough time to grow at junior level otherwise the future looks bright for Zambia

  12. Now for the other regional team, South Africa, to also win. Its about time the region took over representing Africa at the big tournaments. This was a brilliant start by the lads but I hope them being young and everything it doesn’t get to their heads and they become over confident coming into the next game. The coaching staff should guard against this.

  13. I watched the game from the 24th minute when i got back from church. I’m happy the boys got a win. As hosts the pressure is on you to get a result in the first game. The stadium was packed which was added pressure on the boys. It was a difficult game.

The Guineans were well organised in the midfield. The played a better coordinated game than Zambia. We need to work harder next game especially our midfield.
The keeper M.Banda, Mwepu, P.Daka was a threat upfront. He looks like a good finisher to me. I was also impressed by Portugal based Emmanuel Banda when he came in the second half.

The goal that was ruled for offside was a clear goal, assistant Ref got it wrong. It could have been 2-0 to Zambia. It was a good header by Kalunga or E. Banda not sure.

  14. Meant to say was impressed by keeper M.Banda, Mwepu and Patson Daka who was a threat every time he had the ball, as well as Substitute E.Banda.
