Midfielder Boyd ‘Tanker’ Musonda has left ZANACO after the expiration of his contract last month, the ZamFoot Crew can exclusively reveal.
The ZamFoot Crew understands that Musonda is looking to start a new chapter in his career after spending a decade at Sunset Stadium.
“He is looking to start a new chapter now after spending his senior career mostly at ZANACO,” a source close to the player told the ZamFoot Crew.
“It’s time for a new challenge, and a number of clubs have already made contact. It’s now just about deciding what’s best for him at this stage of his career.”
Musonda spent ten years with the senior ZANACO side, with a six-month stint in North Africa where he joined FC Sportif Sfaxien. However, his stay was cut short due to the club failing to honor their contractual obligations.
The 28-year-old was promoted to the senior ZANACO side in 2015 and went on to win one league title (2016) and a Barclays Cup (ABSA Cup) title (2017).
Musonda was a vital member of the Zambia U20 national team that won the 2017 U20 AFCON on home soil.
He was also instrumental in helping the U20 national team win the regional 2016 COSAFA U20 Championship, where he emerged as the tournament’s most valuable player.
Tanker scored two cracking goals at the COSAFA tournament, one of which was the tournament-winning goal.
At the senior level, back in September 2021, Musonda also started in both matches during the Qatar FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers, where Zambia managed a 2-1 win away in Mauritania and lost 2-0 at home to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.
