Equatorial win over Tunisia gives Zambia a lifeline

Heading into the final round of matches, Group B will go down to the wire after Equatorial Guinea stunned Tunisia.

Saturday’s result means the two sides are both on 10 points, but the Carthage Eagles have a better goal aggregate.

Zambia who earlier on thrashed Mauritania 4-0 are on seven points and also have an outside chance of qualification.

Tunisia will host Zambia on the final match day while Equatorial Guinea is away to Mauritania, who are out of contention. Tunisia only need to win against Zambia to be sure of qualification.

The Equatoguineans will have to beat Mauritania and hope Tunisia drop points against The Chipolopolo.

Equatorial Guinea were rewarded for their industry and never say die attitude as they scored an 84th minute goal to give themselves a lifeline in the group.

Ganet scored the solitary goal with a thunderous shot from inside the box after Iban Salvador teed the ball up for him, off a cross from the left. They had been knocking on the Tunisian door especially in the second half and got the most desired result to send the stadium into frenzy.

It’s game on in Group B after Equatorial Guinea stunned Tunisia with 1-0 win

In Lusaka, Glasgow Rangers forward Fashion Sakala netted a hat-trick while Leicester City striker Patson Daka contributed a goal as Zambia thrashed Mauritania 4-0 at the National Heroes Stadium in a penultimate round of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Group B qualifier.

Zambia took the lead in the 34th minute as Patson Daka rose high to head home a Prosper Chiluya beautiful cross, 1-0. It was 2-0 four minutes later as Fashion Sakala Jnr slotted home from close range after some beautiful play from Patson Daka.

Fashion Sakala Jnr made in 3-0 in the at half time as he converted from the spot after Evans Kangwa was brought down by the goalkeeper to make sure the match went to the break with Zambia leading 3-0.

The boys from Lusaka demolished Mauritania earlier in the day

In the second stanza, Zambia picked up from where they left off in the first half and could have added to their advantage in the 47th minute after a mistake at the back to give Emmanuel Banda an opportunity only for him to put his shot wide off the goal.

Fashion Sakala completed his hat-trick in the 63rd minute as he finished off in fine style after some good play from Patson Daka and Lubambo Musonda.

A 3-0 win for Chipolopolo over Tunisia & a defeat for Equatorial Guinea will secure Zambia’s ticket to the next round

  1. Comment:THE BALL IS ROUND.IT CAN GO EITHER WAY NEVER STOP DREAMING.IN TUNISIA, PLAY AS IF THERE WILL BE NO TOMOROW.GOAL ZAMBIA GOAL! UNTIL THE SKY BE THE LIMIT. RODRICK MWEWA. KABWE TOWN.

  2. It’s technical team which leady us into this misery we are in. In future we need serious and proper coaching staff not like quick silver who has no ideas in coaching Just employ those whites we see on the bench to do the job not Zambian coaches who are so biased in team selection. Mr Zimba

  3. We should not have false hope, we can’t win in Tunisia. Even if we win, Guinea will qualify coz they will hammer Mauritania. If the spirits will be on our side, we win and qualify, what next at world Cup? No coach and no faz president!

  4. I dont like thinking thinking too much pantu ine umulopa ulatikama ifya so haaaaaa ……… Anyway bt we can suprise someone ….

  5. We’re in a familiar position as always… I’ve seen this story before and I can tell you what’s next.. “we’re building a team now” just like we did against Namibia, thrashing them after knowing that we’re going no where 😌😌😌😌😌 let’s concentrate on cricket if at all we have it mu Zambia 🇿🇲

  6. We are indeed in a position we shouldn’t have been in the first place… Many challenges among them the harsh refereeing witnessed in Equatorial Guinea even the home supporters murmured at One point and the COVID-19 red list placement that ruled out our best players in the home match against Tunisia! Facts and not speculations! That aside, fast forward, Tunisia was the strongest until they draw 1:1 with Mauritania, and now they lost to EG 1:0, they are at the weakest point with panic setting in because a draw or loss to Zambia will make EG qualify if they beat Mauritania. The leadership battle in our Group is still on! For Zambia the chance of topping is very slim say 20% because EG must lose by any margin and then Zambia must beat Tunisia by a 3:0 margin! Is this possible, yes and that’s football! Boys must be primed to go for a win because Tunisia is beatable by 3:0 or more, equally EG can be beaten by Mauritania just like they beat Tunisia by a lone goal in the 84th minute. Our boys must dare to dream! The 80-20 rule must apply! The 20% chance mustn’t be ignored! Zambia has only One option! Beat Tunisia by a 3 goals margin to take the chance of qualifying to the next round to 80% and hope Mauritania can beat EG even by a lone goal! If were a bit more organised, this time we should have been organising at least 100 Zambian supporters to go and cheer Mauritania to victory (subject to CAF regulations). I certain with all without fans support in Tunisia our boys will & do understand the mission! Imagine Tunisia 0:3 Zambia, Imagine Mauritania 2:1 Equatorial Guinea! Ask England vs Iceland at the other Euros, Madagascar vs Zambia (beaten by two clear goals with all the great arsenals in place, Kalu and squad)…. This football! Tunisia & EG are at par say 80% chance of qualifying! Congratulations to the Group Winner be it Tunisia, EG or indeed at a distance our Beloved Chipolopolo… Viva Zambia… Only 3 unanswered goals again Tunisia and 1 unanswered goal by Mauritania against EG! I rest my case! And whatever the outcome, may the great Nation be blessed in every facet of life! Thanks for your time dear Esteemed Soccer Fans!

  7. Zambia suffered from the harsh refereeing against EG that even had the home supporters murmuring at One time and COVID-19 red listing by the UK that ruled out our best players at home against Tunisia, indeed among others! Going forward, Zambia a slim chance say 20% of making it to the next round. Tunisia and EG are both at say 80%. Tunisia is at the moment panicking after drawing with Mauritania 1:1 and then losing 1:0 to EG! Against Zambia they will be under a lot of pressure! Mauritania must never be written off they will be at home with no pressure against EG who will be under much pressure to win, like Zambia was vs EG in EGuinea! Our boys must be primed to win! Tough but very possible! T 0:3 Z, M 2:1 EG, will see Z qualify to the next round! If we were a bit more organised, we should have quickly arranged 100 Chipolopolo soccer fans to go and cheer the Mauritania to victory against EG (subject to CAF regulations if any). Our boys in Tunis with or without supports will or already understand the mission! Congrats to the Group winner T (80%), EG (80%) and Z (20%)..
T is beatable by 3 unanswered goals, if Z does it, it will at 80% and hopping M can render the 20% to Z by beating EG by any scoreline! Tight and very remote but its game one! Tell the boys and the Technical bench it game on! Coach Chambeshi and the technical bench and all the players on the bench must cheer every action! Let notes be passed onto the pitch to cheer the boys. Imagine M scores against EG, the Z boys must be quickly alerted and spurred on to greater performance! The 2017 U20 boys rarely leave the pitch without a goal! Viva the winner! Whatever the result, GOD bless our great Nation Zambia…

  8. In football anything is possible.Tunisia are in panic & bound to make mistakes which can cost them the match. Mauritania will beat EQ for sure.Who knows what is next….this is football.

  9. Like the late Dennis Liwewe would say ‘let’s wait and see’… summary… 80% chances to Tunisia and E-Guinea and 20% chance to Zambia!if no probability any of the Threeteams can qualify based on Two possible results! T 0:3 Z, M 2:1 EG. T vs Z being the hardest result to come but still very possible! The last result M vs EG is not as hard! Two results Ladies and gentlemen! Two results!it’s difficult but the boys must dream and never give up! Remember Zambiawon the 2012 African Cup against all odds! Meeting the giants of African football, teams ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Africa at that time but thumped them all! Ask Senegal, Ghana and Ivory Coast! If we don’t qualify we know why! We lost Two key matches and not because of our own faults alone! Against EG the Referee was clearly against us! Vs Tunisia our key players missed due to COVID-19. We have in Daka, Fashion, Lubambo, Kangwas, and team who are now accustomed to scoring more goals on foreign souls! At the moment Tunisia is tossing and shaking when they hear such Zambian names! No pressure on Zambia, we are 80% out but can easily grow from 20% to 100% causing more panic in the camp of the next round opponents! It’s always good to date to dream big! Someone tell Coach Chambeshi and entire Squad to dream big! Saying it can’t happen is speculation and One sided! Saying any result is possible is very true and non speculative. Blessed land, regardless of the outcome…

  10. Zambia Zambia Zambia where were to put all this pressure in the first place any I pray that God of Abraham and Isaac to help us in this new donee government win and qualify for the world cup I still have hope in my team… Go Zambia go

  11. People of Zambia u should not say bad things to yr country it’s yr country let’s leave da almighty god to help our team zambia to do what he can do to our on dat day like what he did last time we won Africa cup even dat day he can do da same stop say bad things mwe bantu were is yr heart have heart

  12. Zambia’s chances are mathematical. Big mistakes were made here in Zambia when the team failed to beat Tunisia and Equatorial Guinea. Our coaches need much to be desired. You don’t lose home ground advantage just like that. As great Kalu mentioned our defence and goal keeping is poor.
