Zanaco FC defender Tinklar Sinkala says earning a call-up to the Zambia national football team is a lifelong dream fulfilled, as Chipolopolo gear up for a high-profile international friendly against Argentina national football team.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Sinkala could not hide his excitement after being handed the opportunity to represent the nation — and potentially come up against global superstar Lionel Messi.
“It felt very nice because it’s everyone’s dream to be called to the national team. The moment I was called, I felt very good,” Sinkala said.
“You know the way life is — God’s plans are not your plans. We were preparing for Botswana, then suddenly we are told we are going to face Argentina. It’s a dream come true, to rub shoulders with Messi and play against the world champions. It’s a huge privilege for us.”
Chipolopolo face a daunting test against the reigning world champions, but the Zanaco man insists the squad remains grounded and focused on the task at hand.
“Finally, we have a game and it’s something I remind myself — this is the job we chose, this is our career. It doesn’t scare me. We have to face whatever comes our way,” he added.
“Football isn’t played through words but on the pitch. We believe we can get a good result. Training has been very intense, everyone has been pushing, and I’m confident we will carry that into the game.”
The Chipolopolo Boys will face World Champions, Argentina on Wednesday at 01:15 CAT at La Bombonera Stadium in Buenos Aires.
