COSAFA U20: Zambia Coach Hails positive mentality as Malawi blame defenders

The Young Chipolopolos’ bid for a record 11th COSAFA trophy received a positive boost as they eliminated from the on-going cosafa U20 championship via a 2-1 scoreline.

Coach Osward Mutapa has credited a “positive mentality” for driving Zamba to beat Malawi 2-1 in Tuesday’s Cosafa Under 20 Championship final group A match played at Nkoloma stadium on Monday afternoon.

Speaking to the media after the game, Malawi coach Peter Mponda expressed displeasure with his players.

“It was a very good match, people have already watched the final and i wish theZambiann players all the best in the semi-finals and i know they are going to win, We conceded both goals on small mistakes apart from Otherwise, we played well. We should even have won the game had we converted our chance,” he said.

Coach Mutapa was also happy with his players performance but rued missed chances.

Overall ninety minutes we played well, we knew that they ( Malawi) are a playing side so we had to use two holding midfielders. We made some chances as we wanted to rest some other players as we prepare for the semis,” he said.

Zambia scored through a Golden Mafwenta penalty and a Francisco Mwepu power shot while Malawi pulled one back through a francisco Madinga goal.

Zambia will face Angola on Thursday in a semifinal clash of titans for a spot in the final.
