Copper Queens optimistic of getting a win in Malawi

The Zambia Women’s national team is confident of getting a good result on Wednesday when they clash with the Scorchers in a Morocco 2022 Africa Women Cup nations (AWCON) qualifier set for Bingu National stadium.

Striker Grace Chanda says the team is ready for the Scorchers challenge but she is cautious of the threat they pose.

Chanda believes the team has very high chances of qualifying for the tournament and has urged the fans to continue supporting the Copper Queens.

“We are ready for Malawi, We are prepared and trust ourselves. Malawi played well at COSAFA but we also did well and have worked on the mistakes that we made at the tournament. We will win, we trust ourselves,” Chanda said.

“We worked on using the chances we create hence we are ready. It’s an advantage for us to start away. We will work hard to win that side before we host them at home on the 26th.”

“We have chances of qualifying to the AWCON because we trust ourselves and we know work hence we can beat any team that we meet. To the fans, please continue supporting us, we love you and we will do our best,” she added.

Meanwhile, Spain-based forward Rachel Kundananji says the Copper Queens will do their best to qualify to Morocco because they are aiming to play in every tournament henceforth.

“We looking forward to having a win, Malawi is not an easy team they are strong but we looking forward to a win and qualifying to the AWCON,” she said.

“It’s very important for us to qualify to the AWCON because we want to be featuring in every tournament.”

” It will be difficult because Malawi is a good side, we just have to work hard and work together, Have good communication and combination. Starting away is good for us and we just need to score goals then just hold them when we play them at home.”

“To the fans, I want to say, Never stop supporting and we promise to deliver. It’s because of their support that we are here and promise to deliver,” she added.

The Copper Queens and Scorchers will square off tomorrow at 15:00hrs after which the Queens will host the Scorchers on Tuesday next week in the return match set for Lusaka’s Nkoloma Stadium.

The winner between Zambia and Malawi will face either Tanzania or Namibia in the second and final round of the 12th Edition of the AWCON to be staged in Morocco from July 2-23, 2022.
