The Zambia Women’s national team has moved up six places on the latest FIFA Coca-Cola Women’s World Rankings will be published on Friday, March 27th, 2020.
The Tokyo-bound Copper Queens are this edition’s biggest climbers thanks to their triumph over Cameroon to qualify for their first-ever Olympic tournament.
The Copper Queens have moved up to 100th in the World and 12th in Africa. Nigeria is the highest-ranked African team (38) followed by Cameroon (51) and South Africa (53).
The United States of America remains to maintain their place at the summit while North Korea has broken into the top ten with Japan dropping out. Gambia made their debut on the FIFA Women’s World rankings at 113th taking the number of ranked teams to 159, The second highest number on record.
Zambia beat Cameroon 2-1 at Nkoloma Stadium on 10th March thanks to goals from Mary Mwakapila and Hellen Mubanga to seal their qualification to the Olympics on away goals rule.
