Copper Queens declared ready for 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship

Zambia Women’s national team assistant coach Florence Chalesa Mwila has declared her lasses ready for the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship which has kicked off on Tuesday.

The ZANACO Ladies gaffer said the team was ready and only working on a few tactical touch-ups before their opening match against Eswatini.

“We were still working on some other things we needed the girls to understand on and our tactical approach towards the game and looking at eSwatini, we have come into this tournament not underrating anyone so we have told the girls to focus and the first game it is very important to get the three points and we are very much ready for eSwatini and every other team we are going to meet,” she told the ZamFoot Crew.

“The experience the girls got in Tokyo is very overwhelming and we want to come and display it here despite not having the full squad that went to the Olympics but we have half of the team that went to the Olympics and they are jelling well with the others so we know everyone is watching and looking toward to see Zambia because of the experience at the Olympics.”

Chalesa went on to promise the fans that the team will reach the final of the tournament.

“We can’t say we have pressure because we don’t have pressure. We know the girls that we have selected to feel in those gaps can deliver,” she said.

Fans should expect that we are going to reach the finals, we aim to get gold this time, we got silver in 2019 and this time we are going for gold and we urge them to continue supporting us,” she added.

The Copper Queens will face Eswatini in the opening Group C match tomorrow and their penultimate fixture will be against Namibia three days later while their final group campaign is against tournament guests Uganda on 5th October.
