The Zambia Women’s National Team, the Copper Queens could walk away with $1,000,000 (K24 Million Approximately) should they win the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
This follows an announcement by the Africa football governing body, CAF, that it has increased the total Prize Money of this Competition by 45% and the Prize Money of the Winner by 100 percent.
Just by qualifying the Copper Queens are guaranteed $125,000 (approximately K3 Million), $150,000 (Approximately K3.6 Million) should they finish third in the group.
Elimination at the quarter final stage earns them $200,000 (approximately K4.8 Million) while a fourth place finish $300,000 (Approximately K7.2 Million) and $350,000 (Approximately K8.4 Million) for a third place finish with second place earning them $500,000 (Approximately K12 Million).
CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe believes the increment will translate to an increment in player salaries.
Motsepe also believes the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (“WAFCON”) Morocco 2024 will be enormously successful.
“The 100% increase in the Prize Money of the Winner of the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON Morocco 2024 and the 45% total increase in the Prize Money of this Competition should contribute to the increase of the salaries of Women Football players, coaches and employees,” he said.
“The quality and standard of Women’s Football in Africa is consistently improving and is world class. “
“We are excited about the substantial increase in the number of fans, broadcasting viewers and sponsors in the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON Morocco 2024. This Competition is going to be enormously successful,” he added.
The Copper Queens finished third at the 2022 WAFCON and will be looking to go all the way.
The Copper Queens, drawn in Group A, will face hosts Morocco, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The 2022 WAFCON bronze medallists will open their campaign with a fixture against the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco on 5 July at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
The penultimate match sees the Copper Queens take on Senegal on 9 July at El Bachir Stadium in Mohammédia, followed by their final Group A fixture against DR Congo at the same venue on 12 July.
The participating National Teams in the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (“WAFCON”) Morocco 2024 will receive:
- Winner: USD 1 000 000
- Runner up: USD 500 000
- Third place: USD 350 000
- Fourth place: USD 300 000
- Quarter-finalists (4 Teams): USD 200 000 for each Team
- 3rd of the group: USD 150 000
- 4th of the group (3 Teams): USD 125 000 for each Team
TOTAL PRIZE MONEY: USD 3 475 000
