The Zambia Women’s National Team, The Copper Queens have booked a place at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This follows a 2-0 win over the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in the early hours of Wednesday at the Prince Moulay EL Hassan stadium.
Zambia came into the match needing an outright win following a 2-1 loss at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Friday.
The Copper Queens started strong and put the hosts under pressure. Skipper Barbra Banda opened the scoring in the 38th minute after a brilliant ball over the top, using her place to beat a defender before going round Khadija to make it 1-0.
In the second half the hosts came back with purpose and Zambia needed Ng’ambo Petronella Musole in goal to make fantastic saves including a double save from point blank range.
The match went into extra time where Barbra Banda won a penalty, stepped up and finished off with ease.
Zambia held on to win the match and qualify to the Olympics for the second time.
Earlier Nigeria played to a goalless draw with South Africa to progress, 1-0 on aggregate ending a sixteen year wait.
The Women’s Olympic Football Tournament will run from 24 July – 10 August as part of the Paris 2024 Games
Zambia are in group B alongside giants United States of America, Australia and Germany.

Forget the Kalijo guys besides what couching knowledge do they have Zero. You gain nothing from their chikopo football knowledge. In these two matches I have seen alot of improvements in the Three players Esther Banda, Esther siamfuko and Pauline Zulu Ngambo musiek as usual was excellent I don’t know why this girl is ever sidelined

First of all congratulations to the girls and the coaching staff!!! You have made it and made us proud again.
To FAZ: please be cautious about what you have to do with Bruce and his technical team. Fans will always criticise but yours is to manage criticisms. Bruce has done very well. Some of the coaches he is compared to have alot of resources at their disposal. Given the same environment, they may not be able to produce this kind of result. Secondly, their is chemistry between this technical bench and the team which should not be disturbed. Now is time take Bruce and madam Florence for further training and exposure! If this can be done before the Olympics, it will be better.
To Bruce and technical team: Evaluate USA, Germany and Australia in their current form. Things change like we saw with Morocco. Tactically, know when to apply contract football and when not too. At times make the game flow especially when going up. The top girls should learn to create space for themselves in the box (they should lose their markers). I saw Morocco do this both in Ndola and at their home.
CONGRATULATIONS to the girls that was a brilliant display. A great show of hunger and aggressive play.
Well,the COACH stack to his same old ways (tactics). The only way he knows how to play. Long balls to those runners and hope they have the composure to score. No innovation, nothing just hope somebody sneaks in a goal.
Thank goodness Barbra Banda used her brains and sense of again. That can not be coached. The keeper died a little for the nation (thank you) and the defence played a tireless no nonsense game.
Proud of the girls for their display. FAZ should look into that technical team or better still find another coach.
In Paris we need a technical bench that will assist that man well should you keep him otherwise…. We shall play 3 formality games against USA , Germany & Australia

Why this man Mr. Bruce Mwape not to coach the male national team?
He has no tactics, it’s the girls hard work. He has done a lot but it’s time for him to rest and give room to young players.
