The Zambia U-17 Women’s national team will be looking to book a place in the final when they take on Malawi this morning in the semifinal of the ongoing COSAFA U17 Women’s Championship.
The Copper Princesses and the hosts will lock horns at the Bingu National Stadium at 08:30.
Coach Naomi Phiri has declared her team ready to face Malawi and believes the home fans will support her team once they start playing.
“Our girls are ready, focused and really want to win this game that I can assure you. Playing the home team won’t distract us as the same supporters will also be supporting us since they have said we are one people,” she said.
“We have the confidence that we will defend our Cup. Everyone is pushing and working hard in training proving that they have the heart of a champion”
Meanwhile defender Suwilanji Lukundo is happy to be part of the experience in Malawi and has asked the fans to keep supporting the team.
“The tournament is going well. It’s a tough tournament but we are following instructions and doing our best. This is a beautiful experience, I’m happy to be here,” she said.
“To the fans, please keep supporting us and pushing us so that we can defend the title.”
Coach Naomi is expected to make one change to the team that started in the 10-0 win over Comoros.
Margaret Phiri is expected to start between the sticks while Suwilanji Lukundo, Esther Musialela, Theresa Musatila and Margaret Gondwe are likely to make up the back four.
Skipper Lubasi Pumulo is expected to be partnered in midfield by Jessy Zulu and Harriet Matipa.
Namute Chileshe Bwalya is expected to lead the attack supported by Mercy Chipasula and Blessings Zangose Zulu.
