The Zambia U-17 Women’s national team will be looking to make it two wins in two games at the ongoing COSAFA U17 Women’s Championship in Malawi.
The Copper Princesses will lock horns with Comoros at 10:00 hrs in their second group game.
Coach Naomi Phiri is expected to maintain the team that beat Botswana 5-0 on Thursday.
The Copper Princesses’ gaffer says the team are focused on the game and don’t expect an easy game despite Comoros losing 8-0 to Botswana.
“We are focused, the morale of the Girls is high and we are looking forward to playing that game. The team is still intact, We have told our players to stay focused. Even Comoros will come with a good approach to avoid conceding a lot of goals,” she said.
This will be the third meeting between the two teams at the tournament. Zambia thrashed Comoros 15-0 in 2019 and beat them 3-0 in 2020.
It is not a guarantee that Zambia will carry the day as Comoros has made considerable progress and strides in the development of Women’s Football though the Copper Princesses remain favorites.
Margaret Phiri is expected to start in goal with Esther Musialela, Theresa Musatila, Suwilanji Lukundo and Luyando Foundation Girls’ Margaret Gondwe making up the back four.
Skipper Lubasi Pumulo is expected to pull the strings in the middle of the park partnered by Jessy Zulu.
Mercy Chipasula and Blessings Zangose Zulu are expected to start on the wings with Lucy Kajiya and Namute Chileshe Bwalya leading the attack.
Kick off at the Bingu National Stadium is set for 10:00 hrs.
Should Zambia win the game they will top group B, and book a semifinal clash with the runners up in group A set for Wednesday.
