Copper Princesses eye good ending to poor World Cup outing

The Copper Princesses will be looking to conclude their 2024 U17 World Cup campaign on a bright note when they face off with Japan tonight.

Zambia’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup 2024 journey came to an end on Monday following a 2-0 defeat to Poland in their second Group D match.

This was Zambia’s second defeat at the tournament after narrowly losing 1-0 to Brazil in their opening match.

Coach Carol Kanyemba says her team is now aiming to end the tournament on a good note.

Kanyemba believes Japan are a tactically sound side but she feels her side can get something out of the game.

“They are a good side who can hold possession, and very good tactically. They have a weakness in transition and if we can concentrate we could be able to hold them. We hope to have good progression and be clinical on goal. We are looking to get a goal and maybe a point out of this game,” she said.

Skipper Blessings Zangose Zulu is expected to lead the team from midfield alongside Mapalo Maluba and Taonga Natasha Mubanga.

Upfront Bwalya Namute Chileshe, Mercy Chipasula and Lweendo Hanongo are likely to make up the attacking trio with options in Ruth Muwowo and Gift Kalwizhi.

In defense, Nana Malanda, Margaret Gondwe, and Saliya Mwanza expected to start ahead of the amazing Mwila Mufunte.

Japan on the other hand need just a point to seal qualification to the next round.

They were held to a goalless draw by Poland before coming from a goal down to beat Brazil 2-1.

Japan will look to Asako Furuta and Momo Sato to make something happen for them in this match.

Kick off at the Felix Sanchez stadium in the Dominican Republic is 22h00 and the match will be live on FIFA+.
