The Zambia U-17 Women’s national team clinched gold at the 2020 Maseru Region V Games following an emphatic 4-0 win over Botswana in the final of the COSAFA U-17 Women’s Championship.
Coach Kaluba Kangwa made one change to the team that Namibia yesterday with Luty Kamanga returning to the starting line up to replace Roydah Ng’andu.
Zambia started strong with Jessy Zulu arriving just second late in the 5th minute following a brilliant low cross from the left wing as the lasses looked to hit the ground running.
Zambia finally opened the scores in the 14th minute with a thunderbolt of a strike from Jessy Zulu who was put on goal by Gracious Tailoshi.
The second goal took a bit long to cone but Lucy Kajiya was on hand to slot home from close range after dancing through the Botswana defense.
In the second half it was more of the same as Lubasi Pumulo headed in a third from a Gracious Tailoshi corner before Tailoshi could seal the result with a brilliant free kick on the 71st minute.
This is Zambia’s first COSAFA U-17 Women’s Championship title after coming out third in 2019 and second last year.
Skipper Lubasi Pumulo was named as the player of the tournament, goalkeeper Chitete Musanka walked away with the golden gloves accolade while Lucy Kajiya got the top goalscorer award thanks to her three goals in the tournament.
