Chipolopolo two places down on FIFA ladder

Zambia dropped two places on the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings released on 3rd December, 2015.

Zambia ranked 71st in the world and 16th in Africa last month but have now been overtaken by South Africa who have moved ahead of the Chipolopolo who are now ranked 73rd in the world.

The drop comes despite Zambia posting two victories at home and away against Sudan in the World Cup qualifiers in November.

Africa top 20: Ivory Coast, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde Islands, Tunisia, Senegal, Congo, Guinea, Egypt, Cameroon, DR Congo, Mali, Uganda, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, South Africa, Zambia, Morocco, Gabon, Benin

  1. But what criteria do they use to arrive on such positions because Equatorial Guinea is not even among the 20 teams to form groups in the world cup qualifiers African zone?

  3. Keep it up Zamfoot you have surpassed the rarely visited ghanasoccernet. It is okey to allow Ghanaians to post empty comments on our famous website in West Africa. I find no reason to exchange words with them. Mayuka needed serious prayers for scoring against the “Best in Africa”. No wonder they bewitched him….

  4. Kikikikikikikikikiki Its Julius Situmbeko, @ Buch you don’t have any right to call me dull am not your son pulizy! Why even call me dull? or is it because have mentioned your master shukalu? You knew that it was not Musokotwane I meant and thats the reason why you asked me if I know Zambian football, don’t force me to judge your level of integrity sir I need an apology. One Zambia one nation

  5. Charly Musonda is attracting a lot of attention from a number of big clubs in Europe. Most people are saying the young star is more talented than Hazard or De Bruyne of Man City.

  6. The under 20 and under 23 games are not counted to these fifa ranking.there are only counting the games played by the senior national team.zambia was suppose to climb on these ranking because we beat sudan home and away, equatorial guinue is not doing better than zambia because there were booted out of the world cup quelifying games cape verde lost they first game to kenya but won a reverse fixture but yet they did not drop but climbed on the fifa ranking

  7. I don’t understand why cape verde is ranked 4th I can’t remember the last I head cape verde play a friendly match on fifa calender and yet they are 4th

  8. The team that win two games home and away drops on the ranking while the team that wins one game and lose the game improve on the ranking what can I say useless ranking

  9. LMAOOOoooO “More talented than hazard or de bruyne of man city” what kind of weed do you people smoke??? I am sure you only get ur football update on radio, you hardly watch european league matches cos if you’ve watched man city game for once you will never never never never never never compare that guy with De Bruyne.

Most people- — people from zambia right?

    • What difference does one nationality make in stating obvious facts? Even if l am from Afghanistan, how can this boy be better than Hazard, Be Bruyne? Some of you live in outer space where you are cut off from reality on the planet earth.

  11. I mean even if Charles musonda z better than messi or Ronald so wat he will never play for mother Zambia… N this fifa ranking z useless to say de least hw do we win two games in a roll n drop in ranking mashilu aya aini? Last but nt de least kalu must go n by de wen r de faz elections going to be held??? This z wen am going to c whether our Zambian coaches r normal or nt if at all they use those full backs in de world n afcon qualifiers napela ine

  12. For authentic soccer followers, these rankings present what is currently obtaining. Zambia right now has no credible team, they play very disjointed football and have no system whatsoever. All of us are to blame, especially FAZ that has failed to engage a quality coach. Fans should not stress with complaints; instead, the onus is on us to pull our strings as a country. Let us accept reality, we are lamentably failing to live up to our expected standards: lack of motivation, innovation, tactic, direction, and patriotism have generally characterized our beloved team of late. There is no passion and will.

  13. Zambia is like Greece when they fluke win euro cup. It is possible to fluke win competition by being lucky on the day. Zambia no giant. Zambia minows and have been humble back to there correct position..YOU CANT BE POWERHOUSE WHEN YOUR TEAM ONLY MOTIVATED TO PLAY AGAINT THE BLACK STARS SINCE ITS THE CLOSEST THING YOUR PLAYERS HAVE WITH RUBBING SHOULDERS WITH THE BEST WHO ARE ABLE TO COMPETE BEYOND IN EUROPE. PRAY ZAMBIA MEET GH IN WC QUALIFIERS

  14. I have never understood these rankings even when someone posted the formula here about a year ago I tried to apply it and still could not get to how FIFA works out these rankings. This stup!d rankings wont count when we start the Russia qualifiers as we are already placed in the various pots. They will also not really matter for the Afcon qualifiers as well so for now to me they have they same value as a pile of dog crap.

    • @ Big Steve 4rm SA, it’s very confusing but let me explain it a little plain and simple. It isn’t just about winning a game which improves one’s FIFA ranking, but they look at your wins that are against opponents with good ranking. For example, Sudan ranks somewhere 128, Zambia 71 which means you don’t gain any quality points. Therefore, Zambia has to beat a team that ranks 60 and less to gain more quality points, so its pretty much nothing gained from beating Sudan.

      • Cont. However, according to FIFA’s criteria, Zambia beating Sudan is like University student competing with someone in an elementary school. They think that’s too easy. To improve rankings, one should play against a team with a good rank.

  15. @ Don I have also noted the very keen interest that the Manu scouts and other clubs are showing in Charley Musonda Jr. I just wish our nonsensical constitution is amended quickly enough ( for dual citizenship) before he gets a call up for the Belgium National team. If it does happen that Mourinho is open to him leaving in January and he gets a couple of starts for a big club then he will probably get a call up to the Belgium team and he will be lost to us forever. Yes people can say what they want just like the unfortunate comment above about him never playing for Zambia, but truth be told these are the players we need to get us anywhere. Olympics has become a farfetched dream because of lack of proper talent and yet there are people who still have the audacity to think it is ok to overlook the very little real talent we have. Our local league just does not have the potency to produce players good enough for tournaments like the Olympics let alone qualify for them. No matter how much we overhype our local league players it wont change the fact that they are not good enough.

    • When did Zambia win the World Cup ? Where do you guys play your soccer & win all these trophies? On the moon? Zambia has NEVER qualified for the World Cup . How did Zambia win the World Cup then ? COSAFA is NOT World Cup . Even when did Zambia win COSAFA ? The 2012 Afcon will not make Zambia a recognized soccer nation worldwide. Zambia could not even go beyond the group stage in the last Afcon. Is this the Zambia that won the World Cup or some other Zambia from Pluto? YOU LIVE IN A DIFFERENT WORLD
