Chipolopolo in morale boosting win over Ethiopia

The Zambia national team has beaten Ethiopia 1 – 0 in an international friendly played in Addis Ababa.

Allan Mukuka scored the only goal in the games just before half time.

Ethiopia were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute but Binyam Assef shot over the bar for Zambia to maintain the lead.

Israel based striker Evans Kangwa made a claim for a starting berth in the Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau with a man of the match performance in the game.

Southampton striker Emmanuel Mayuka came off the bench to replace Lubambo Musonda in the 62nd minute.

Ethiopia were reduced to 10 men with five minutes to play.

The Chipolopolo arrive tomorrow and will travel straight to Ndola where they will set up camp for this weekend’s game.

The team will be beefed up by Emmanuel Mbola and Mukuka Mulenga who did not travel to Addis Ababa despite training with the team last week as well as other foreign based players including Kennedy Mweene, Stoppilla Sunzu and captain, Rainford Kalaba

STARTING ELEVEN FOR CHIPOLOPOLO.

  1. Well done Chipolopolo away win its a gud result. But Janza should go! Zambia is one of the bigger teams in Africa with rich history we just need to get a good coach, thanks to our government to take this issue of a coach seriously.

  2. The boys are playing without a coach and star striker rodgers kola . The time janza goes is the times is going to resufarce .

  3. Such are results that make Janza think is good coach. Wait for Saturday and you will see him learning again

  4. Meaningless win, it does not take away the fact that we need a complete overhaul at FAZ and a new coach with pedigree and a proven track record!

    • I have watched more than 5 videos for Kola, I still don’t understan how he can be better than Mayuka or Patson Daka.

  5. U20 World Cup UPDATE:

All African teams hit knockout rounds
History was made Sunday when all four African teams at the FIFA U20 World Cup – Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana and Mali – made it to the knockout stage of the competition for the first time ever.

Interestingly, it will be an all-African clash on Wednesday, when Ghana face Mali in Wellington.
Ghana, the first and only team from Africa to win this competition in 2009, lost 1-0 to Mali in the group stage of the African Youth Championship in Senegal in March, before they avenged this defeat by beating their West African rivals to finish third in the same tournament.
This fixture means that at least an African team are guaranteed a place in the last eight of this tournament.

African champions Nigeria will take on the champions of Europe Germany on Thursday in Christchurch after the Flying Eagles finished second in Group E behind Brazil.
Senegal, hosts and runners-up at the 2015 AYC, also made it to the knockout rounds after they finished as one of the “third best losers” and they will now tackle Ukraine in Auckland on Wednesday.

  6. U20 Round of 16:

    Uefa: 6/6
    Caf: 4/4
    Conmebol: 3/4
    Concacaf: 1/3
    Asia: 1/4
    Ofc: 1:2

And we have Caf champion Nigeria vs Uefa champion Germany.

NIGERIA vs GERMANY, Mali vs Ghana.

    • Am sure on Nigeria (vs Germany)you MEANT former CAF Champions since Nigeria actually failed to defend it this year by NOT (qualifying) even appearing at the 2015 AFCON games in Eq/Guinea . Wish all African representatives the best.

  7. Way to go boys , this what we need to keep on doing if we’re to see Russia in ’18….getting positive results away from home.
However,Rogers Kola should ‘v bn given a run to see where he’s at,otherwise a good outing for Zambia.

  8. mediocre results atase!!!!!…they only win
games that really dont matter.if it was a
qualifier u wud ve not won.our team is
mediocre….they only win games which are not
televised.closed door games with second or
third string of ethopia national team, malawi
sudan they get luck…line a full strength sudan
or ethopia u ll feel the true heartach of a
hardcore soccer fan….this is still mediocre.it
hurts to win teams of beta standards like
Ghana or ethopia but end up losing to teams
    like malawi,namibia,sudan or even lesotho.

  9. By the way Donashano Malama saw a red card at the just ended COSAFA tournament. Does it mean he is disqualified from playing one competitive game? However I think Fackson Kapumbu is better at right back than Malama whose rough pkay can be costly in a crucial tie. Also kudos to Janza for trusting Kabaso Chongo at left back who I feel has improved and is better tactically than the mercurcal Mbola..Also I feel that Katebe should partner Sunzu as Full backs…

  10. Good for just calming us but still need drastic changes at both administration and technical bench and please now include Kola and drop Mtonga,kabaso-guess he is the one who gave away the penalty, and bold move for dropping Malama. Also good for those U20 bravo for the all Africa next time let us do the same also at the senior World Cup.

  11. Great weekend,National team won though most feel we need an over haul both at the bench and administration, our now under aged brothers from the west did us proud,Stan Wawrinka and Williams won, there are also rumours that maybe Russia and Qutar might be stripped of their hosting rights if found wanting, though had just one set back as my beloved Devil Kalampa lost.

  12. We will not be flattered by this win. Kuya bebele. Just when you think the guy and his team are on the path to recovery, only to come and fluff against minnows. Just wait for saturday against Guinea Bissau and see what I mean. Even they win on saturday, I am still convinced that the man is not the right person to coach Zambia. Fluke win. We won’t buy that.

  13. The only interesting part about this win is that atleast we have recorded an away win. it doesn’t matter against which team we played. Again this win doesn’t change anything either. Janza must go, the government is ready and faz should also make things clear by getting someone with experience and not coaches that test their ability to coach on chipolopolo. Rodgers Kola must be called, give him a chance just like mayeleyele (jackson mwanza and bornwell mwape).

  14. The call for the inclusion of rodgers kola its by public demand .janza reconsider your decision and recall kola . This man might save you. You wil be fired because of that boy and poor results .

    • Not every win is a win. In Ghana no one will speak about a win against Ethiopia. Cos it expected. Zambia are mediocre in expectation even I they win against a subs team they say a win is a win only to be outclassed by that same teams team A in a tournament or competitive match. Eg. They jubilated over a win over a team D black stars at cosafa

      • Little do they know that Ghana is exposing their amateur teams to competitive soccer by playing against players who have played afcon before. In the next five yrs these local black stars will be a torn in ur flesh.

Just look at the pool of player Ghana has now.

They were second in Afcon without the big guns Essien, Muntari, Kojo Asamoah, prince Boateng etc.

        Watch and learn ba Zambia

  15. ok boys work hard, allan i think this is his year after failing many times. My problem is playing 2 defensive midfielders always ba janza. Try 2 find natural offensive midfielder sam one who attack en score ( sebstenia mwanse o richard kasonde) nd men more

  16. I BELIEVE WE HAVE TURNED THE CORNER. CONGRATS. GOOD RESULT JANZA. I WILL NOT BE SURPRISED IF ZAMBIA BUTCHERS CONGO BRAZAVIL. GO ZAMBIA. MAY THE GOOD LORD BLESS OUR COUNTRY. AMEN

  17. @chisuta modern football is played wt two difensive mids…….th cry for kola is too much, remember th coach cnt pick everyone,I feel at some point he wl feature

  18. Do You want us loose the first games like he did in the past AFCON ; no let Hanza go.. May be he can try to coach a club of his capacity.

  19. Zambians are in too much football talk this time around. And there is one common thing they all talk about, changing the technical bench. Well everyone has the right to suggest that but you must consider that changing the technical bench at this time might be detrimental. Like I said before, I also harboured such ideas until I started reading into what Janza was trying to workout for Zambia.Janza is on the right track. Yes he lost a couple of games at COSAFA but let not anyone of you ignore the fact that it is at this stage that he and you had a chance to notice how helpful each of the players could be to the national team.I mean those players that have been showing signs of being ripe enough to don the national Jersey. Slowly this team will gel. He is at the stage of bringing in professionals who I guess can not struggle to implement instructions. Rogers Kola will soon be part of the setup. What Janza needs is a proven physical trainer as assistant. Believe me , Zambia will soon be on the bigger stage.Building a team is a process. The process is difficult and complicated for footballing nations than minnows. Minnows have no choice but to stick to the few talented players they have. The comparison process is less with them. Even the systems they use are fewer but for a big pool varied player strength increase the variation in approach. With due respect give the coach the support he needs. A proven physical trainer must be number one on that list. With love from Botswana.

    • Just because of yesterday’s win. Look at the greater picture bro. We are tired of rebuilding which never ends.

  20. The picture can never be bigger than what I have focused on.Remember he inherited a team that performed positively when it was under the guidance Reynard’s righthand man. However, in a short period the team had shown signs of poor performance. That is what led to the ongoing project- rebuilding. It started with giving every jack a chance to prove himself.Casualties were there for everyone to see. Chris is one of them. The second phase was to identify new talent and they couldn’t be ushered into the team like fisherman would walk straight to the fish pond, No…..They too must prove their worth. Katebe did that. The question I would ask at this juncture is ‘are you together in this course? Did FAZ arrange enough games for this stage to be accomplished?’.Those are topics for discussion on another day. The other stage is that of blending the proven new talent with the tough and tested old guards. There are many more stages that come after this. Results may come or not come during the process. It is the most difficult time for coaches. Only dedicated ones would stand the test it brings along.Thieving coaches would find an excuse to ship jump so they could steal someone’s effort for their credentials .Give janza a chance.
