Chipolopolo gets top seed for AFCON 2015 draw

Zambia have been seeded in Pot 1 for the draws for the Equatorial Guinea 2015 Africa Cup of Nations to be conducted on 3rd December.

The perennial AFCON contenders are only second to Ghana in the CAF rankings used in seeding teams for the AFCON draws.

The seeding is based on the Points system of which gives the Winners of the AFCON 7 Points, Runners Up 5 Points, Semi Finalists 3 Points, Quarter Finalists 2 Points and Group Stage 1 Point.

The Points are multiplied depending on the last 3 Editions that a team featured in.

For this AFCON it will be based on the 2013 ( * 3), 2012 ( *2) and 2010 ( *1).

The 2012 Champions are also joined by hosts Equatorial Guinea and 2013 finalists Burkina Faso in POT 1 and can only avoid the three in the group stage.

The draws which will be done in Malabo, Equatorial could make interesting headlines as Zambia will be grouped with one team from each pot.

POT 1
Equatorial Guinea (Hosts), Ghana (20 points), Zambia (19 points), Burkina Faso (18 Points)

POT 2
Ivory Coast (18 Points), Mali (16 Points), Tunisia (8 Points), Algeria (6 Points)

POT 3
Cape Verde (6 Points), South Africa (6 Points), Gabon (5 Points), DR Congo (3 Points)

POT 4
Cameroun (2 Points), Senegal (2 Points, Guinea (2 Points), Congo (0 Points)

  1. Congrats to Zambia for doing what mattered most- beating Mozambique when they had to. But after may permutations I did using an approach which work well in previous years, this is what I see

    GROUP A
    Equatorial Guinea
    Mali
    Gabon
    Congo

    GROUP B
    Ghana
    Tunisia
    DR Congo
    Senegal

    GROUP C
    Zambia
    Algeria
    South Africa
    Cameroun

    GROUP D
    Burkina Faso
    Ivory Coast
    Cape Verde
    Senegal

    • Please Chu is that all you got????
Anyway kindly give us Gabon and not South Africa. South Africa are our brothers from the South of the Equator.
Cameroun is a team we need, they survived in Angola at AFCON 2010 by a whisker. This time -No Mercy. Bring them on Chu. The earlier we eliminate them for you the better.

In 2012 someone was singing praises and hyping Senegal. We flattened them in less than 20 minutes, never to rise again. When their stars reached England they suddenly remembered how to score and they started scoring left, right, and centre. Hat-tricks, bowler-tricks, beret-tricks and even Stetson-tricks.
In Zambia, we don’t talk too much, we just beat.

      • hahahaha kasama, ‘kasa’ in Akan language means talk and ‘ma’ means full or much. So am not surprised at this enthusiam. Well I’ll rather avoid Cameroon because they are a much rejuvenated side under Finke, they conceed less goals and posses the element of surprise. Senegal for me is a no go area if you know clearly who Jiress is, he has built a solid force and is left with mentality for his side to be a full force. Gabon is more manageable but have beaten Burkina Faso (one of the best on the continent currently.) and pulled a scoring in Ouagadougu so be carefull what you wish for, you might not like it and can be a must bitter pill

        • We, in Zambia, are used to the under-dog tag. We love it that way because we surprise those who underrate the Chipolopolo.

Before the tournament, you will hear analysts talk about favourites to lift the AFCON. In 2012 Ghana & CIV were billed as favourites to win AFCON 2012. The winner of 2012 AFCON was an “under-go.” Again Ghana & CIV were favourites to win AFCON 2013 and nobody even mentioned Bukina Faso. Nigeria were AFCON 2013 Champions

Experience has taught me that qualifiers are often different from the actual tournament regarding team performance. Let the best team win AFCON 2015

  2. Great News we are a force to reckon with in the world of soccer. We thank God for our team and I pray and hope that we will go farther than what the soccer pundits are speculating and predicting….

  3. Cameroun used a C team and handed Ivory Coast qualification. That game was riggid.. CAF should investigate, I watched that

    • There was nothing wrong Popeye, it is needless for Cameroon to field a strong side and perhaps it gave more youngsters exposure. After all DR Congo qualified by doing what was necessary.

  4. To be honest, it won’t be easy at afcon 2015. Adequate preparations are needed. Otherwise, it will be another early exit. Lets play strong teams in friendlies prior to afcon 2015. FAZ preparations should start now. We also need a friendly with the new Bafana Bafana if we won’t be in the same group with them.

  5. the tournament has not even started and Zambia is saying they have won. u don’t even know the group u will find your self but has declared that the cup is already in Zambia.
The African big boys are at the moment strategizing on how to approach the tournament. 2015 tournament I believe is the Algerian team I tell u they are very good. watch out zambia

  6. @ Alex zz, who are those minows that have avoided Ghana? Hope u don’t mean the true Champions coz the fluke ones are not among those 16.
Spain will be the true defending champions of 2016 euro after they won it four years ago. We won afcon just 3 years ago and we are a team to fear.
2013 Afcon was the most useless tornament held in this century apart from those ancient times. When other tornaments are being held after 3 or 4 years, then the one held after 11 months must be rendered irrelevant.

  7. The AFCON 2015 is a killer, and that is when Zambia performs better.
At the moment the probability of winning this cup stands at 1/16.

Bonse fye baleumfwa umwenso Boys; Girls.

So Ref: Wabaletelela, balala muma boots, wabaletelela, ba Zambia ni Nkalamo wabaletelela.

Christopher Katongo mentioned it in 2012, I quote,
“to win the AFCON you have to dance with the so -called big boys and hammer them,” meaning that, you cannot be champions if you fail to beat who ever lies in your path, because they will beat and eliminate you.
Let the games begin!!!!!! Go and conquer or be Conquered. That is the name of the game!!!!

  8. Congrats guys but our defense worried me last night against cape verde!!!!! S .A. mean business guys, i will be supporting them too.

  9. I can see the repeat of Angola afcon group stages. We might be in the same group with Gabon, Tunisia and Gabon, bt we can still go beyond the group stages. Please FAZ let’s prepare adquatelly. Let’s play friendlys with stronger teams, we can play one weak team like the weak eagles(Nigeria).

  10. Honestly speaking, going by the way our team is playing, compared with other teams who have qualified for AFCON 2015, we need to work extra hard. At the moment our football is not inspiring as compared to the way we were playing prior to AFCON 2012. Have you people watched the way South Africa, Cameroun, Algeria or Congo Brazzaville are playing? Talk of teams winning home matches? – the way Ghana hammered the Togolese – that is winning at home, NOT our 1- nil! Let us be realists, we have a long way to go. We need to immediately camp preferably in South Africa for atleast a month plus as we did last time prior to AFCON 2012. If we won’t be serious, we shall surely be exposed as I feel we are not yet there.

  11. RSA, Cameroun, Tunisia, Senegal & Algeria are the teams we need watch out for. We should focus on how we can beat those teams looking at their improvements they have made.
Other teams like Ivory coast was not convincing and seem to dip in form. Worse for ????? who suffered both home & away games at the hands of Crains though the referee equalised for ????? in the first leg via a doubious penalty at babayara Stadium.

    • Revenge is a dish best served cold
Most definitely, our paths gonna cross and we’ll play ball
Yea,the black star is gonna exact revenge on all it’s nemesis
Stand firm Chipolopolo for the pride of Africa is up and rising
      Glory! Glory! Glory!
      Ghana Black Stars
      Beautiful team with beautiful colours

    • Forget old legs. We need to be calling for Munthali and Malama to be dropped and reforce our defence with serious players not calling for old legs. Our midfield is doing fine.

      • Replace Chansa adequately and on one will be crying for his recall. It is clear our defense is exposed and Sinkala rendered ineffective without a proper partner in the middle of the park.

  12. the name Ghana scares pepo to the bone so much so that they comment and mention all but Ghana, eihhhhhh!!!! like they say if u are MAN enough, mention and u go c brimstone,COWARD.

  13. Whether u cry buckets and barrells full of referee this or that,Ghana did the relevant job,QUALIFICATION.if u still shivering at that name,go hug that transformer with uor wet tears.

  14. Mr Janza our defence needs tightening up if we’re to excell in this tournament ,otherwise the team looks good.I concur with Kilo that Mtonga should be in the squad, let us get the best possible side pliz.

  15. Southern Africa only got two shots at it therefore I want Zambia n South Africa to be separated as long as it can take . I wish both countries succes and hope one of them brings this trophy down South.

  16. FAZ! Why are we failing to maintain the turf at Ndola stadium, the grass is looking unhealth with dry patches everywhere! Why can’t we find someone(expat) frm say SA to help us in this area. look at those guys in west africa, they have really improved in this area meaning they are moving with time! What is wrong with us? Janza plz recall Kondwani, we need more now!

  17. Mark my words today en never forget this. What ever teams that ll be in de same group wth us ,this time zambia ll go into the second round like or not.let them put us in a group of death that how ll understand wat i mean. And pliz don’t take this has joke wat i m saying today is wat u ll see happen at Afcon 2015 zambia ll be de team to watch no one ll understand only to those who ll mark my wrods from today.thanx en God bless zambia

  18. This will be not an easy AFCON 2015 for any team looks good believe me, the notable thing is we ain’t the bookmakers favourite nor hunted ones this time around compared to AFCON 2013 When every team was out get at us CHIPOLOPOLO, now we are the hunters cooper sealed bullets like any team that made it to finals AFCON we in to win it..CHIPOLOPOLO IYEA.

  19. Anita-believe you me, it’s the type of grass. When you step on the pitch the grass is lushy. That said i agree with you that we need to get GREEN and not GREEN YELLOWISH grass. It’s the Ministry’s responsibility and not FAZ to maintain the pitch.

  20. When i look at all these guys, i must admit this Afcon looks like it will be the most competitive yet. i foresee a lot of drawn matches as there is just too much quality and it will be hard to separate some teams. Awe bane naikosako iyi especially if we cant get Mtongo & Sunzu into that Defence awe sure.

  21. Prior to the 2012 afcon finals, Zambia did not impress much but did very well during the tournament.
This is the reason I feel our boys are going to shine in January next year. The only threat is Algeria; the rest are easy to beat.
