Chipolopolo downward spiral on FIFA ladder continues

The Zambia national team has continued its downward spiral on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World ranking this time falling one place from last months 73rd position to 74th in the world.

The Chipolopolo who did not play any match in the month of August have been overtaken by Uganda and now rank 19th in Africa from last month’s 18th position.

Zambia’s opponents this weekend, Kenya, are in a dismal 116th position while Gabon who play Zambia on Tuesday next week are 63rd.

Apart from April when Zambia gained one step on the ladder and March when they did not record movement, the Chipolopolo have recorded downward movements every month falling from 46th on the world rankings at the end of last year (December, 2014).

    • Relying on the one and only tournament to achieve everything in life? No. The fluke win did not take us anywhere. We must understand and acknowledge that the national team is not up to the standards it should be. Let us find ways to improve & stop the unnecessary complaints some of us engage in always. The West Africans will always be ahead of us. They have all gone through what we are experiencing now. Nigeria has been there, Ghana was there, Ivory Coast same. WHAT DID THEY DO TO IMPROVE? Answers needed.

      • I agree with everything you have mentioned except the insult of “A fluke win”. Lets respect the players and all involved to have achieved that victory – it was a start before you could count two. Respect.

  1. @odija – Senegal was beaten by Zambia with the presence of second top scorer England by then ( Demba Ba), with the top scorer in France by then( Musa Sow) and many other players from top clubs in Europe.Even now Senegal can fall.

  2. @ Rascozy, FIFA ranking is fake.It is like you are basing your position at number of players you have in Europe, that is a lie.Zambia has meet Senegal 13,6 are draws, lost 3 times and won 4 times. Which one is a better time? Strictly speaking, Zambia should be above Senegal and Equatorial Guinea, has never beaten. Therefore, the ranking is fake.

    • Several factors come into play for the rankings. Not beating a time so many times is the yardstick for the rankings. Are you indeed a football fan?

  3. Ghanaians are making it big in Europe

    Ghana defender Baba Rahman
Ghana defender Abdul-Baba Rahman has been named in Chelsea’s squad for their 2015/2016 UEFA Champions League group stages.
The 21-year-old was named a 23 man squad with fellow new comers Begovic and Pedro Rodriguez.

The former Augsburg defender will however be boosted by his inclusion into the Champions league group stages as he aims to put up a challenge for the left back position of Jose Mourinho side.
    Chelsea’s full squad:
    SQUAD:
Goalkeepers: Thibaut Courtois, Asmir Begovic, Djamal Blackman.
Defenders: Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry, Garry Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta, Baba Rahman, Kurt Zouma.
Midfielders: Fabregas, Oscar, Matic, Ramires, Mikel, Willian, Hazard, Kennedy, Traore.
Strikers: Radamel Falcao, Pedro Rodriguez, Diego Costa, Loic Remy, Ruben

  4. You can make it big in europe but not in africa. Europe colonised u badly, but we are trying very much to protect u very much. Any way we are both giants of african football, though we are likely 2 lose 2 Rwanda & kenya respectively.

    • Colonization has got nothing to do with this. We must strive to be relevant on the world stage & not clothe ourselves in the comfort of a single Afcon win. What have we achieved internationally after that? NOTHING. When are we qualifying for the World Cup ? All the African Giants have been to the World Cup. Ghana , Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Mali ALGERIA Egypt Togo Tunisia etc ( mostly the West & North Africans). WHY?

    • Welcome back Mumbi with your unanalytical mind. Even in Africa, Ghana is ranked higher than your Zambia – that is the more reason Ghana & the other West African countries have been representing you at the world cup. Looking to the day when your Chinese and Thailand players will qualify for the world cup to meet the likes of Brazil, Holland, Italy and Germany. That day is yet to be created by the Almighty God. Any way, welcome back to the game.

    • Giants of African football – Zambia? since when? 2012? boy oh boy!!!!! Even winning a single Afcon makes you a giant, then there would be no adjectives to describe some countries. After that fluke win, where is Zambia. That makes it a fluke. could not even pass the group stage in the last Afcon. what a disaster.

    • My bro Abram, when it comes to world cup qualifiers, Zambia struggle against others west african countries: Ghana (WC2014), Togo (WC2006), beaten by Senegal home and away (WC2006)

    • @ MUMBI: Ghana has lost to Rwanda. Let us wait for the outcome of the Zambia/Kenya game. Without having the desire of giving excuses, the Rwandan pitch was horrible. The only goal Ghana had from a set piece was partly luck. None of the teams could play a flow-through game. WE WILL NEVERTHELESS TAKE THE 3 POINTS.
Mumbi, inform Paradox of the win if you happen to come across him along the railway line.

    • Ghana kicked out out of the world cup qualifiers also because of poor travelling arrangements. Today, there are rumours that two of your players are stuck in Europe because FAZ did not send them tickets. When will you learn any lesson from your misfortunes

  5. @amaafrica in 2010 world cup qualifier we beat togo and qualify to the next round as a group winers. zambia, togo and swaziland. coming to ghana game we beat them at home and lost in kumasi just becoz of poor offieting of the game and we train in a car park.

    • I hear you Abram. I just pointed out the fact that those teams from the west have already beaten Zambia in serious games (home and away)

    • Who practices on a car park. You must know that your own stupidity caused you not to have the stadium for practice. Rules are rules and must be followed. You cannot just decide to be at a place any time suitable to you. lack of planning in Africa is one of the things hindering our progress – economically. You brought that into football too. Change your ways. Ironically, Ghana faced the same palaver in Brazil. You saw what happened to Ghana. Disaster. We must all learn to do things the right way. No ifs & buts. Poor travelling arrangements are always found with the Zambian teams – whether Under 17, 20 or the senior team. It was a lesson learnt the hard way. you did not even learn from that as it has happened several times after the Ghana incident. BLAME YOURSELVES AND NOBODY.

  6. west africans pliz learn hw to apreciet we are all africans. zambia has been beating teams from west africa and we have a good record in your region.

    • The point shouldn’t be whether we can beat team X or team Y. The point has to be how can we raise our dwindling soccer levels to greater heights and maintain those levels. Any team can beat any team anytime anywhere.

  7. Gentlemen with due respect we shud jst admit tht Zambia is a finished team since 2012 da graph has been on a downward slope. As much as we shall argue on da rankins da bottom line is WE NEED 2 IMPROVE we are below our standards chapwa…

  8. @Ba Abram the fact that we dnt hv a ‘proper coach’ like u sayin is wht has made us descend in our rankins and performance. Even some players r below standards. We just hv 2 improve boss by winnin games nt drawin nd losin all da tym. Am sure uv seen 4 yoself tht since 2012 things hv dwindled.

  9. Ghana African giants who are struggling to win afcon . U need a digital trophy to prove that you are giants in African football.. What you experiencing now Zambia passed that phase .. We are now working on soothing new.. Where you play doesn’t matter Uganda andZambia can beat you at any given time.

    • i like this comment, that Ghana needs a digital trophy? that uve passed what phase? that u r working on something new? can u pls share so that learners can begin jotting something down professor Mash,LOL in caps…….

    • You live in a f…. paradise. Even without winning any AFCON recently, how many times have we gone to the semis or even the finals? How many times have we been to the ULTIMATE – THE WORLD CUP? Internationally, put the two names together and see who would be recognized as a football nation. Our performances on the world stage shows our class, our pedigree.Columbia is ranked 4th in the world but has never won a world cup. Belgium is currently ranked second because of its pedigree.
Winning a single AFCon in a country’s history and thinking it is the end of the world amazes me. Ghana has not won AFCon in about half a century but recognized as an African giant. Why? Favouritism? No, rather it is based on pedigree. Why is Zambia falling in rankings? No class.
JUST TRY TO MAKE A SINGLE ATTEMPT TO THE WORLD CUP IN 2018 AND YOU WILL RISE IN RANKINGS. WITH YOUR PLAYERS SPECIALIZING IN CHINA, THAILAND, IRAN, AND MALAYSIA, I DOUBT THE WORLD CUP APPEARANCE IS ACHIEVABLE.

  10. @some drab-brains here, south Africa got colonized even longer than most African countries even to the point of their own been termed apartheid[most cruel and racial form of colonization],they struggled and today some African footballers ply their trade there remitting huge sums of dollars to augment poor economies back home, uor whole FAZ president is aboding there and remote-controlling uor football administration, even some bloggers here have relocated living huge in this same apartheid country,so if u as a football novice [criticizing others as been colonized by Europe] that eat, drink and shit Zambian soccer been controlled by Kalusha from an apartheid country, then guess what u are.
Really dont know when u pepo will take this FIFA rankings serious cos its a real deal especially when it comes to seeding during WCQ matches so whether uve beating whoever by whatever times, whether some country is a daily bread or regular customers or whatever, all of those are made nonsense of with these rankings, positive reasoning begets positive results.

  11. I dnt wnt 2 b drawn in2 ths Ghana-Zambia story bt may I say Ghana hv always hd gud teams bt unfortunately success @ senior level has eluded them 4 so long they nid sum redemption thr friendz da elephants @least managed. We cn tok about semis wateva bt every african player wnts 2 b an Afcon winner no wonder dede wept uncontrollably(2015) same as yaya in 2012.

    • One time win in a nation’s history & nothing else? we have won three AFCONs and more so we have won a world cup – Under 20 by beating the soccer masters – Brazil – with 10 men. A single FLUKE AFCON? Zambia is just like Greece. After winning the UEFA about 10 years ago, Greece has not achieved anything since then, That is the plight of Zambia.

  12. Ghana will surpass this foolish afcon trophy you people cherish sooo much and MAKE HISTORY LIKE THEY ALWAYS DO BY WINNING THE WORLD CUP AND WILL BE THE FIRST AFRICAN TEAM TO DO SO While zambians continue to hate in there success rather than learn from them

  13. FIFA ranking is their with us and we can only ignore it at our own football peril. Let the team engage in international friendlies of repute and you will see what the results will be. Atleast every two months we play a game outside the usual qualifiers like the Gabon game on Tuesday – win it and you will see the impact.

    Let us not be Ostriches!

  14. the currently ghana team is useless they cant win the afcon title. they only relay on history of 90s lets talk about 2000. we have been wairing u guys but u dont apreciet. uselss ghana team.

    • After winning the AFCON seven (7) times in the 2000s, you are still ranked 74th by FIFA. Ask yourself why? Even FIFA knows that the 2012 ( the only time & probably the last time) win was a fluke, and ranks you accordingly. After 2012 win, tell me any achievement of those boys who play in Malaysia, Thailand, China, Burma and Malta.
On a more serious note, Zambian football is in shambles. You should strive to develop the soccer academies. This is what Ghana is doing currently and thereby our boys are flourishing in the big leagues in Europe. LEARN FROM US. By going to Europe, the local teams benefit from the signing fees. There are so many advantages in playing in the big leagues like EPL, Bundesliga La Liga etc. We will be giving you lessons on football administration soon. We are still learning and would like to share ideas.

  15. @ MUMBI: Ghana has lost to Rwanda.
