Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu has said each national team player will get $10,000 [about K200,000]
Nkandu said this following Zambia’s 3-0 win over Ivory Coast on Saturday.
The victory saw Zambia book a place at next year’s African Cup of Nations.
“You know you carry over 19 million Zambians on your shoulders. You heard me every time telling the people of Zambia that you have no reason not to qualify,” Nkandu said
Player Rater: Zambia 3-0 Ivory Coast
“Because we had not being there for three consecutive times, so we said that we couldn’t afford not to be there for the fourth time.
“And you just delivered what you promised. I was having a chat with Frankie [Musonda], the captain, Lubambo [Musonda], Toaster [Nsabata] and Fashion [Sakala]. They assured me that this time we are also going to AFCON finals. And true to their word this is what we are witnessing today,” he added
“As we are excited as government. When government is excited, it means that the whole nation is excited.
“Now that we are all excited, remember Fashion [Sakala] and others when we met in the office, we had increased on some allowances.
“This time around what I will do is that every qualification comes with a bonus. I want to make sure that players are motivated. We need to be motivated and for that I want to announce President [FAZ boss Andrew Kamanga] that there’s a $5000 for every player.
“That’s just bonus for qualification, meaning you have $5000 for qualifying and another $5000 as winning bonus.
Zambia went top of Group H on 12 points while Ivory Coast are second on 10 points.
Comoros who defeated Lesotho 1-0 on Saturday are third with 6 points.
