In what was a difficult year for football to be played, the 2020 football calendar came to an end with the FAZ lower leagues yet to start but that did not stop the beautiful game from being played in Kasama.
First, there was the Edward Chilufya Christmas tournament which saw a well-organised Chintelelwe F.C emerging as champions.
Kasama business Man Chipili Chomba also joined in the development of northern Province football and keeping the teams busy during the festival season by sponsoring the Girls and Boys Chipili Chomba Christmas tournament.
It was the first time having a girls’ Christmas tournament with Mpanji FC battling it out against Pride Stars in what was an exciting final which Mpanji won on post-match penalty kicks (04)_(02)after a 2all draw on Saturday 26 December 2020.
On Sunday 27 December 2020 the men’s teams of Tazara Blue stars battled it out against Chintelelwe F.C for a third and fourth playoff with Tazara blue stars winning 2 -1.
In the final it was Kasama United squared off with Kasama Zesco Chiefs. Zesco emerged victorious 5-4 on post-match penalties after a 1 all draw.
The tournament was organized by Kasama businessman Chomba Chipili, Speaking through his representative Mr. Kennedy Mwamba. Mr. Chipili said that he was glad to have sponsored the tournament.
“I am happy to have been part of the tournament, during this festive season a lot of youths engage in all sorts of bad vices at least the tournament kept them busy, I’m so happy that even the girls participated in the tournament which is very good for girls football development. I would like to thank all the teams who took part in the tournament,” he told the ZamFoot Crew.
