Chicken drops Munyao and Mudenda for Mozambique game

Chipolopolo coach George Lwandamina has dropped Red Arrows goal minder Danny Munyao and Power Dynamos midfielder Kennedy Mudenda from the team that will play against Mozambique on Sunday in the first round second leg 2016 Rwanda CHAN qualifier.

Mudenda was named in the starting line-up in the first leg but he disappointed and was substituted in the second half. He was part of the Zambian team that participated in the inaugural 2009 CHAN tournament.

At the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, Munyao was the second choice goalkeeper and was being primed to take ver from Kennedy Mweene but he has quickly fallen out of favor with ‘Chicken’ losing his position to Zesco united goalie Jacob Banda who has been named CHAN team captain. When Lwandamina led the U20 to the World Cup finals in 2007, Banda was his first choice while Munyao was second choice.

Other players dropped are Kayawe Kapota and Solomon Sakala.

The three new cal ups to the team; Moses Phiri, Mwape Mwelwa and Mwila Phiri have all made the final team.

The team departs Lusaka for Maputo via Johannesburg aboard a South African Airways flight on Friday morning. The team is expected to connect to Maputo at 13h00 on the same day.

Zambia take a 3 – 0 lead into the second leg after overwhelming the Mamba’s with goals from Winstone Kalengo, Conlyde Luchanga and Spence Sautu.

The squad:

Goalkeepers: Jacob Banda (Zesco United), Toaster Nsabata (Zanaco);

Defenders: Boyd Mkandawire (Napsa Stars), Christopher Munthali (Power Dynamos), Buchizya Mfune (Green Buffaloes), Benedict Chepeshi (Red Arrows), Donashano Malama (Nkana), Dauti Musekwa (Zesco United);

Midfielders: Jack Chirwa (Green Buffaloes), Paul Katema (Red Arrows), Charles Zulu (Zanaco), Benson Sakala (Power Dynamos), Salulani Phiri (Zanaco), Spencer Sautu (Green Eagles), Mwila Phiri (Green Eagles), Mwape Mwelwa (Zesco United);

  1. Chicken is obsessed with Zesco players maybe he thinks its CAF champions league NO SIR its CHAN for national teams not clubs. Don’t demoralize yo league opponents.

  2. Zesco 4 players
    Zanaco 4 players
    And Green Eagles has contributed 2. Next time we will watch players from Lumwana and Mansa.
    Not too bad balance

  3. @ mambwe zimandola let de coach select players acording to their perfomance, zesco is on fire & their are de defending champions and they wil defend dis title, so its normal they hav to produce more players than any club.

  4. if u can go to north africa u wil see clubs like al hilal & el mereikh = sudan. alhly & zamalek = egypt. esperance & etoile sahel = tunisia. usm algiers & es setif= algeria. even Tp mazembe & As vita club = DRC. etc

  5. hard luck to munyau, u ar still a very good goalkeeper work hard next time, i can remember u 4 cosafa tourment we hosted last time & de crucial game against de giants, or de power house of football, de team coached by a real tactician Ahmed Muhammad Abdallar Mazda, known us de SUDANESE!!!

  6. Beautiful game we’ve seen in far away Chile in the on going Chile U-17 Fifa World cup.

    South Africa and Guinea not playing that well, they may not make it to the next round. Mali with a win and a draw should make it through. Those malians are good.

    But what can I say about the defending and undisputed champion Nigeria, the eaglets are already through to the next round after defeating USA 2-0 and the host CHILE 5-1.

  7. No ghana and no zambia at the chile u-17 world cup. Ghana have been finding it hard since the introduction of MRI scan for players and zambia can’t just compete with others

  8. i don’t get why people are complaining about 4 zesco fc players…they are the form team and should even contribute more…munyao not performing…mbewe- i don’t get what he is doing in that team,i’d replace with Luka Lungu for a super sub…..opinion

  9. Geaorge lwandamina has sum serious personal issues against Munyau.i rememba wen he was jst appointed coach for red arrows,he dropped munyau he wasnt evn being put on the substitutes bench.immediately he was fired munyau started playin and ws piked for the national team.sadly muyau has bin dropped again for reasons only best known by him.not football reasons cos hes in top form.shame on George

    • This is the problem with local coaches. Petty personal grudges with players bringing them to the national team. Undeserving players are selected at the expense good deserving players. Its the country that suffers at the end of it all. Munyao is a very good keeper. At one time we thought this guy was a perfect replacement for Mweene. I have no confidence for that Zesco keeper, Banda. Nsabata is even better than Jacob Banda. Banda is just a comedian of a keeper. He should just stay at Zesco and continue dancing and entertaining Zesco fans during matches.

  10. We give Chicken a chance to do wat he thinks is right.nomatter th player combination,al we want is a CHAN qualification.If he thnks picking th whole Zesco team,fine,so long thy perform to our expectations.Even european giants do that.eg Barca nd th Spannish team.

  11. @ Zimandola, George is just doing fine. he only has 4 players from Zega, 4 from Zanaco, then the rest come from Power, GBFC, Arrows G. Eagles contributing 2 from each team

  12. This man Luandamina doesn’t cease to amaize me we cried for Moses Phiri in chipolopolo forever group on whatsapp and he has called the prolific striker ,thanx Chicken ,you are different . and for zesco players you selected you did a good thing you are a true coach don’t mind negative posts it’s part of the game .
