Forest Rangers will be eying to dethrone Power Dynamos as League Champions following a triumphant start to the season.
Fole Malembe head coach Ian Bakala says his team will do much better than their 8th place finish last season.
Forest who won the 2023 ABSA Cup beat Abayellow 3-1 in the Zambian season curtain raiser, the Carling Black Label Zambia Charity Shield.
Despite Andy Boyeli’s 14th-minute opener for Power Dynamos, Rangers came from behind to score three goals through Libamba Moyela, Gerald Simusokwe, and Lazarous Chishimba and win the match.
““It’s a good thing, and I’m happy it’s the first time we have won it. All the clubs are aware that it’s always tough to meet us. Going forward, we are going to fight for the Championship. We promise to do much better that last time,” Bakala said.
“I warned the players in the dressing room, and thanks to them, they came back. We will work on not allowing the early goals.”
“The credit goes to the players they have done well , it’s not easy to come up against the Champions,” he added.
Meanwhile captain Cedric Djeugoue believes Forest Rangers is on the rise and keeps improving year in year out.
The Cameroonian is confident there is a lot more to come from the Ndola based outfit.
“We are very happy because we beat the Champions, Power and second because we got a second trophy for Forest Rangers,” he said.
“Forest is now big and getting bigger. This is showing that Forest is going up every year, I hope we can continue like this every season.”
“If we can manage to beat Power 3-1 it means we can do more. We going to continue working hard,” he added.
The MTN Super League season will kick off next weekend with Power Dynamos starting their title defense away to Prison Leopards while Forest Rangers host Kabwe Warriors.
