Striker Alex ‘Bazo’ Ng’onga was not fully fit in the run up to the Kabwe Warriors tussle, Nkana head coach Beston Chambeshi has confirmed.
Chambeshi told the Times of Zambia that the technical bench reserved the forward as he was coming from an injury as a precaution with the coaching staff worried he might aggravate the injury.
The former Power Dynamos striker came off the bench to replace Jacob Ngulube in the 54th minute and could have put Nkana in the lead in the 75th minute only for Dominic Chanda to bring him down before being given marching orders.
“Ng’onga was injured. It is his first game today (Sunday) which is why we had to reserve him,” Chambeshi said.
“Even as the technical staff we were worried that maybe something might happen but I am happy he finished the game without any limping which is good.”
Nkana and Kabwe Warriors played out to a goalless draw on Sunday at Nkana Stadium in their opening game of the 2022/2023 MTN Super League season.
Debutant Amon Chulu, a Left Back who just joined Kalampa from Lusaka Youth Soccer Academy was voted as the Man of the Match.
