Zambian interest in Africa still remain strong after the second round games concluded over the weekend though most of the teams with Zambian players dropped to the second tier Total CAF Confederation Cup 2017.
Emmanuel Mayuka’s Zamalek, Kennedy Mweene’s Mamelodi Sundowns all qualified to the group stages of the CAF Champions League despite the two players not featuring. Mweene made the bench in the 1 – 1 draw away against Kampala City Council.
Winstone Kalengo did not travel to Ethiopia where AC Leopards where beaten 2 – 0 by St. George to lose 3 – 0 on aggregate. The ZamFoot Crew understands that Kalengo was taken ill ahead of the match.
Alex Ngonga also saw his AC Mounana tumble on penalties against Wydad Casablanca after the two side played to a 1 – 1 draw on aggregate.
As already reported, TP Mazembe and Young Africans also dropped to the Confederations Cup after the weekend games.
The draw for the 2nd 1/16th final of the Total CAF Confederation Cup will take place on Tuesday, 21 March 2017, at 11H00 Cairo time (11H00 CAT) at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
The draw will pit the qualified teams from the 1/16th final of the Total CAF Confederation Cup 2017 against the losers from the 1/16th final of the Total CAF Champions League 2017 for a place at the group stage of the Total CAF Confederation Cup 2017.
The first leg matches will take place on the weekend of 7-9 April 2017 and the return leg on the weekend of 14-16 April 2017.
Qualified teams from CC 1/16th final
MC Alger, JS Kabylie (Algeria), Recreativo do Libolo (Angola), ASEC Mimosas (Cote d’Ivoire), El Masry, Smouha (Egypt), MAS Fes, Ittihad Tangier (Morocco), Rayon Sports (Rwanda), Hilal El Obeid (Sudan), Mbabane Swallows (Swaziland), Platinum Stars, Supersport United (South Africa), Club Africain, CS Sfaxien (Tunisia), Zesco United (Zambia)
Losers from CL 1/16th final
RC Kadiogo (Burkina Faso), AC Leopards (Congo), AS Tanda (Cote d’Ivoire), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Mounana (Gabon), Gambia Ports Authority (Gambia), Horoya (Guinea), CNaPS (Madagascar), AS Port Louis (Mauritius), FUS Rabat (Morocco), Barrack Young Controllers (Liberia), Rivers United, Rangers (Nigeria), Bidvest (South Africa), Young Africans (Tanzania), KCCA (Uganda)
This will be taxing. Losers from the CL are last years champions in their respective countries. I hope ZESCO is given a team we can easily handle, so Zambia can have 2 teams in the group stages.
Go ZESCOLO GO, if you qualify again we shall still have 3 games to watch at home from each group.
I thought Alex ngonga has return to power dyanamoes because last time zamfoot you reported that power dyanamoes was on the verge of resigning him again
