Chipolopolo skipper Christopher Katongo scored a 41st minute goal to hand Zambia a win over the Cranes of Uganda which was enough to see Zambia progress from the group with a game in hand.
Lwandamina made two changes to the starting line-up with Patson Daka and Christopher Munthali coming in for Mwape Mwelwa and Buchizya Mfune respectively.
More to follow…..
Zambia Starting XI v Uganda:
Jacob Banda – Dauti Musekwa, Stephen Kabamba, Christopher Munthali, Adrian Chama – Jack Chirwa, Saluslani Phiri, – Isaac Chansa, Chris Katongo (C), Cletus Chama – Patson Daka

The Man himself….CK!!
Well done Zambia Chipolopolo for qualifying to the Q8 of this tournament. But the boys need cohesion. They looked out of sorts and were always defending. They put themselves under pressure too much. They need to keep the ball, keep possession and attack as unit, as well as defend as a unit. To me Chris Munthali really played well at the back.
Congrats Chris for coming back in form. Ba Katongo naba Chansa we still need then in the senior national team for the AFCON and World Cup qualifiers.
Well done boys. I know we can do it.
We could have won this match by 3 goals to 0 has we taken those chances.
Mwamuna! Thank you captain!
Ask Ponga Liwewe what is his comment on Katongo and Chansa so far because he said they old. Still I maintain that what we want is person who make or help team win, be it grandson or grandfather
2012 spirit visible in this team
lwandaminas tactics first thign are pathetic. but it all comes down to expirience of the old guard. a lesson pe3haps that we shouldnt have shelved the older legs. the young players are bringing nothing to the table.
#HH 2016
Shut up Freemason jst like your leader. u will be stumped for the second time
veterans
Its seems like George lwandimina is geting the results in the hard way,the team is not playing very well but he is geting the results its better the team play bad and get the results instead of playing well and lose the game.congrates to the team
Gud game cris keep it up and prove the dauting thomases wrong
But in the next round we must watch out for tunisia and nigeria we might meet them.we don’t have the good record against these two teams.but the team should just believes in themselve they can do it
I thought people were praising the Uganda Coach! George got us the result and that’s all we can ask from any Coach. HR did us proud even though some people still call him evil names. Please let’s appreciate what we have. Congrats to Chipolopolo and All the Zambian family. Shalom
Zambia might meet tunisia or nigeria I hate these arabs
Congrats chipolopolo. We need to work on jellying
its gud chicken has proved all those wu condemned de inclusion of ck & gatuso to de team going by their(ck & gatuso) performance. de we can do now is to sapot de team. congrats zambia we love u.
Congrats to chipolopolo. Though just a bit dissapointed Daka didn’t score. Congrats to Munthali and clatous Chama, to me. They were the most outstanding.
Kindly guide me, I thought the young player got a an of the match performance in our first game? Shalom
Indeed. It was Salulani Phiri.
Quarter finals, here we come.congrats boys fo makin us smile again.all th best in th tournament.
Chris was outstanding in defence, as much as Chansa played well he was suppose to be rested by the 70th min. Cletus can do much better but sometimes he becomes too confident.
@Stumpy jst like in 2012 u were too negative against zambia and now u are at it again. for the second time u will be stamped
S and J doubted before AFCON 2012. DEJAVU? Those who were there know these guys.zambia did well against a spirited Uganda. Tactics were spot on
Chris k
In group C Guinea and Tunisia are level on point second to Nigeria. All with zero goal difference. It will be tricky as Nigeria face Guinea and Tunisia face Niger in their last matches. Zambia may face anyone of these. Whilst zambia needs a draw to top the group. Did you see tbe standing ovation for Salulani Phiri as he limped off? Last was awesome.
That was…
I believe Patson Daka brings more to the team than Luchanga, although Daka needs more guidance on how to play as a centre forward. Daka tends to drift out wide on both sides and does a lot of running outside of the box and thus expending unnecessary energy. If he could focus more and stay in position he will be scoring goals because he has good ball control.
well done guys you have made country proud but we have to change our game plan in the quarter final if we’re to progress to the semi final not chipatepate style go might chipolopolo go
Especially by Munthali
Ask Ponga how it was going to be if CK and Chansa was not in the team.
Congratulations ZAMBIA ! Satisfied comments reserved . WHO WAS THE MAN OF THE MATCH IN THIS ONE.
Chris Katongo
For me,cmy men were Munthari, chama & the captain who showed real leadership. Not ilya yaba Mupa..katongo is really enjoying his role. A captain who feels like that gives a lot of confidence to the rest of the team. Keep it up ba Mr fantastic and welcome back Munthari.
Munthali may be strong but does not play out of danger by passing instead kicks the ball aimlessly
Oh LORD pls give us ZAMBIA in the quarter finals……. I pray we finish second in group C…. Amen
That would be wonderful !
I like this soildier.
Chris Katongo should be a decorated African icon – in football. He leads by example & l have always said if our politicians could follow his example, the continent would be heaven on earth. Bravo, Chris. We need a fan club for this maestro. Any volunteers? We would support.
@Muchofe, the Keeper Jacob Banda did well too.
i hop ponga is watching, chan squad will add more power 2 da main team. I cant wait 2 c chansa nd sinkala in our midfield
wel don guys
Hehehehehe @ Noni are you sure ur praying for that?? Do you honestly think that sickly Nigerian technical bench can beat Zambia
Chris K ‘s peformance am mau less. but let us encourage de boy p. daka especially soccer fans congrats cheap all law paul law.
I mean chipolopolo
We had a good game, though we should work to improve in our subsequent games.
nayo!! nayo!! chipolopolo!! i hv been saying this before the game we wil win this championship, well played boys at least we are improving in each game.
bazamfoot we need match reactions from both coaches & captains!
Congrats boys but we not playing our usual Zambian game despite producing results
Guys lets learn to appreciant, the boys played well.
yaba!! its boring ovias they have gone to church.
The site shuld not being boring when pipo are celebrating a sweet victory like qualifying to the next stage of the tournament. work up!! we need the match reactions of yesterdays game.
we are knocking de doors of zamfoot to bring us a new headlines.
i saw better improved zambia more chama ,munthali musekwa chansa katongo & banda j. daka can do better but he need game time at club level thats wat is keeling the boy.congrats boys just forget about false analysis ponga.go go zambia.
Very scrappy affair…nonetheless, it gave us a vital win. We definitely need to improve our play to deserve a place in the last 4. Our players looked very uncomfortable on the ball and could hardly string 4 accurate passes together throughout the 90 minutes. I felt we miss a natural play maker to stamp his authority on the game and instill confidence in the team.
I beg to differ with that unless we watched different games
I conquer on lack of coordination. The match against Zimbabwe was better in this regard. Munthali floated too many high balls. We should learn to build up from the back.
Kampinda you’re very right. That was my observation as well. The guys are unable to hold and keep the ball, and displaying one touch football to frustrate opponents like they tried to do in the first match. This was not the case in yesterday’s match.
congrats chipolopolo .ck , ic ,pd , cc, cm , jb and the entire chipolopolo well done . Thanks to God
Eish, can someone please pass me the “I was wrong” tea and some ‘humble pie.’ I will also take a ‘inshaishibe atti taba pwa’ to go.
In 2015 AFCON, I stood by Janza when he decided to go with the younglings and left out Chris Katongo and company. Now I sit here thinking, I wonder what would have been if Katongo and Chansa were part of that team.
Regardless of what happens going forward i.e. win or lose, I have to give a SALUTE to Chris Katongo for a job well done. The young ones are gravitating towards him, and its easy to see when you see them do that goal celebration. I just hope that that same mentality will remain steadfast when it is tested, and it will be I’m sure.
Thanks for taking a good one on your chin. Chris Katongo and Chansa still got unfinished business with the senior team. Let that door be open for any player who proves his/their worth .
The young ones must learn as much as they can from Chris and Isaac’s movement and technique. Christopher Katongo’s never say die attitude is very hard replicate, players like Chris only come around every 20-30 years. When you have them you must make the most of them….
Critical finishing was the difference in the game. You can see the young ones on each side blasted their chance instead of placment first. More players in the team must think of placement!
We thank goodness to have bested Uganda one more time, we scored and held on well. Towards the end it was good to see the team still pushing out. The young ones must improve their finishing.
Drogba played for Ivory Coast at 35 years and we Zambians wanted to disrupt CK, a decorated soldier at 31 years,…how ridiculous!
Are u sure he is 31.
im happy that wailers hu disappear! lets surport our team dont be negative all the time, we wil qualify to the semi finals & i belive this is our cup.
There we go, This is Zambia the real Copper Bullets has been discovered rumor has it. Focus now is on the next game ba coach. Please if you don’t want Luchanga to start the just after first half give him chance and he will never disappoint you ba coach. Congrats Team. Ba Zamfoot atishani ka match reaction kaili, you start it yourselves and please give us a match reaction and this should not be a reminder but a mandate we love this site so much.
the coming in of mwanagwa muntali & patson daka was gud to our team. i was impressed with munthali he commanded the backline very well. go! zambia go!
I know very well that at the end of the the tournament, the trophy will surely go to west Africa….as usual.!!
The trophy has been surrendered by Libya pall.
Im i the only one seeing the emerging competition between patson and luchanga? The later had to be aggresive after seing the good shift put in by daka, and thats good for the team.if chama continues to grow, like someone has already observed, then we have a good play maker in the making. His touches reminded me of chisamba lungu and kalaba. I dont want to be carried away but this 2nd game gave me hope, just like i felt re-assured after the senegal game in 2012 becoz some bloggers (s and j) had scared me with their negativity!
Positivity z needed in all of us,more especially us bloggers. Much bamano ngikwatile.every one wants to be noticed ati “I said it”and at the end seen as though mubamano sana kanshi “kuwayawayafye
that was fantastic a game infact games by our national team. to me its not a suprise that our football national team can do wonders becoz we have quality players in our country. and we luck selfishless, focused, determined and smart in mind leaders to utilise the country’s soccer potential. i suggest that given time, resources and free decision making environment chiken can do it.bravo chipos
I was looking at some comments by Ugandans on FUFA official facebook page. I was shockef to see how much they respect the CHIPOLOPOLO BOYS. It’s like the majority of Ugandans saw the defeat going their way a long time ago.
Nyc play by patson daka he knwz hw 2 control de ball vry well as wel as Chris muthali he commands de back vry wel big up 2 de man of match ck 11 go chipolopolo go
Well done better football displayed than the Zim game, we are getting there! Ponga, stay away from our Chipolopolo!
tsunami!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tsunami katongo!!!!!!!!!!
Janza ali kufyenga you and Mbesuma, Kalengoal, Chansa we are on top
im here waiting for the wailers to come in
let the wailers to come in qualifying to the quater finals with a game in hand which means a team is ready for the competition here we come yellow! nayo! nayo! chipolopolo!
Ba FAZ give Lwandamina the job and pay him 50,000 Euros a month, he has proved his is a good coach
Tabamupele contract,kaili temusungu…
Lwandamina already has a running contract with Zesco so he can’t sign another one. If he signs with FAZ then he has to resign as Zesco coach.
Chipolopolo Guyz I Just Wan’t To Say Thank U For That Goal, but Please Try To Improve Ok.
Goerge has gained experience but he needs more exposure to gain confindence. If he signs as chipolopolo coach Let him play more friendlies with teams in south america and asia and that is if he wins CHAN. I think 2016 upto 2022 will be the golden days for zambian football. Evans also scored in Isreal .
FAZ should on be sending at least 3 or 4 coaches for coaching course in Europe. It’s better than hiring expatriates who at one point will leave after their contracts.
….run out.
we need patrice beaumelle to take over the job lwandamina shud be assistant!
How old is this boy cletus chama. He won’t be playing in the ZPL scouts have already taken note.
Hehehehehe, laughing out aloud. So says Prof John.
Chama has good technic naturally but he appears too pompous for my liking
so u r watching a tournament u describe as useless
Yes. Sundowns scouts are already clamouring to sign their 14th foreign player to help stabilize their 5 foreign player requirement.
Go chipolopolo!!!!
welldone my boys
thankyou guyz
well Don guys
Personally I have been impressed by Kabamba the left wing back. The guy is steady and robust. He can attack on the left. His run led to the goal by Chris after he was fouled we got that free kick.
For me he has been a revelation.
He needs more exposure but so far he has impressed me.
So John was watching.
john the chameleon, slowly changing colors. he will soon start praising chipolopolo
This tournament is useless I won’t change goal posts the under 23 and under 20 were more crucial. Nevertheless scouts are watching this chan and it’s a chance for some of our boys to enter europe.
Those under something tournaments are now water under the bridge, let’s now shift our attention to now n the future.
Countries like Namibia Bostwana etc in southern region have developed becouse cosafa. The chan tournament will also build self-confindence with African states hence we will all start playing at higher level .what is needed now is to add more value the african tournaments so that those wishing to play abroad will think twice .
Does anyone have any doubt about Daut? is his defending stout?
How tough is captain Chris?? he still got up and did tjhose acrobatics! If that had been Diego Costa getting clattered by the goal keeper he would be at the Oscar’s for “crybaby” performance of the year!!!
Zambia was always expected to beat that pathetic Ugandan team!
Lol. You, John, and Stumpy should get your own show. You remind me of those two old men in the top box on Muppet Show. Lol
I totally agree, ati “why do we always come here, I guess we’ll never know, its like a kinda torture, to have to watch the show……..lol, but then the next day they are there again! same!
LOL!!!!
Lol. those Two homos
Captain fantastic Christopher Katongo, Cletus Chama, Stephen Kabamba, Isaac Chansa, Christopher Munthali, Jacob Banda and the young profilic striker Patson Daka should all be rested for the meaningless game against Mali!
I hate to say this, but John is absolutely right on the U-23 and U-20 tournaments being more important.
Here’s why; the Olympics and the U20 world cup provide a bigger platform for players and invaluable international experience for these guys. Let’s also face facts with this tournament. FAZ failed to prepare the U-20 and U-23 and based on the reaction of the people, they are now trying to buy back our faith by heaping pressure on Lwandamina to do well and preparing the team for this tournament was a reaction by FAZ who at this time assume none of the risk and will lay claim to success, but will fire Lwandamina at any perceived failure.
This is what I have told you guys. This FAZ does not plan or prepare for success, instead they react to failure and stumble through their successes. If you don’t believe me, just look in the archives at their statement on failure to pay the U17 female national team after they qualified for the world cup, atti we didn’t budget for so many teams to qualify.
John and I may disagree on the idea that this tournament being useless, but I will agree with his sentiment on the missed importance of the U-23 and U-20 tournaments. If not for the U-20 world cup in 2007, where would Mayuka, Sunzu, or Fwayo be.
True but we can’t cry over spilt milk, we got the AFCON and W/cup coming up , so let’s keep on looking ahead.
I have always said that I’ll give praise to where it’s due and will criticise when necessary; the preparations for this tournament have been spot on. Zambia has qualified to the quarter finals with a game to spare; I cannot remember the last time that happened.
The likes of Stephen Kabamba, Cletus Chama have been a revelation so far. Christoher Katongo has brought about calmness and leadership to this team; I wonder what Ponga Liwewe should be thinking right now; His father would be very disappointed with him if he was still alive.
The last game against Mali is a dead rubber; like I have already said, CK11, Stephen Kabamba, Cletus Chama, Patson Daka, Christopher Munthali should all be rested. No need for taking risks!!!
Ba Zamfoot! More to follow………When? This is day two….
i can agree with Kay Hummer but even if its a formality game we shud not allow to loose, we want to finish as a group leaders to avoid nigeria.
Congrats Zambia. But i Guess this is how far we could come. I dont see ourselves go past Nigeria or Tunisia… Well done boys so far
We need a strong squad against Mali we won’t do them a fever! Uganda is better than Mali on the pitch.
Ba Zamfoot, are u telling us that both coaches had nothing to say after the game?
Can anyone update me on the status of Rainford Kalaba at TP. His been holed in Lusaka for a few weeks now.
@Paradox, thank you for calling them guys out! They are evil!
