Cameroon National Women’s Team has started their preparations ahead of next month’s crucial Tokyo 2020 Women’s Olympic Qualifier fifth and final round match against Zambia in a two-legged back-to-back encounter slated for 5th March 2020 in Yaounde and while the return match will be played five days later.
Cameroon Coach Alain Djeumfa has summoned 26 Lionesess who will battle it out against the Copper Queens in a mouthwatering encounter next month.
Djeumfa has maintained a core squad that edged The Les Elephantes of Ivory Coast in the previous round 2-1 on aggregate but he has handed a promising 17-year Old young star defender Mireille Tchengang who plies her trade in France for PSG Under-19 her first National Team call-up.
Coach Djeumfa has also recalled Marie Awona Aurelle a defender who recently signed a 1 Year 6 Months contract with Spanish La Liga Iberdola top-flight side Madrid CCF who will bring some experience at the back alongside Estelle Johnson who features for United States-based side Sky Blue and has played in almost all the matches in the Olympics race for Cameron and will work alongside the likes of Bengono Catherine and Meffoumetou Falcon providing cover for Bawou Ange in goal.
Zambian defenders should do their homework and stop the attacking trio of Nchout Njoya Ajara, Aboudi Onguene and Akaba Edoa Michelle.
Ajara had a great run in 2019 scoring a Brace against DR Congo and the match-winner against Ivory Coast in the Olympics race
which earned her being shortlisted in the 2019 African Women Footballer of the Year top 3 nominees and was also influential for her Norwegian top-flight side Valerenga as she has an eye for goal and is likely to partner with CSKA Moscow’s Onguene who equally had a decent year in the Russian Women’s League and will be alongside Amazone’s Akaba Edoa Michelle who has helped her team score 40 goals in the current Cameroon Women’s League. Takounda Alexandra is another option Coach Djeumfa will rely on.
The Indomitable Lionesses opened their training camp in Yaounde yesterday February 20 and it will run for 2 weeks up to 4th March, a day before they lock horns with the Copper Queens.
The first leg is slated for March 5 at the Stade Omnisport De Yaounde and kick-off is 15:00hrs local time which is 16:00hrs Zambian Time.
